Anita M. Tarr, 97, died November 2, 2025 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. She was born at home in Perham, April 29, 1928 the daughter of the late Harry and Leona (Roy) Dickinson. Anita attended Washburn, Caribou, and Freeport High Schools. Her first job was as a telephone operator in Presque Isle. On June 15, 1946, she married Alden Lendall Tarr. Her greatest job was raising her children in Perham, where she lived until her husband’s death in 2000. She then moved to Salmon Brook Estates which became her home quickly. She moved to the Maine Veterans Residential Home in Caribou in 2024. She loved and met many new friends who enjoyed each other’s company as they laughed around meals, bingo and other activities. She loved all the staff there and became close friends to them as well. She enjoyed following sports, including her grandchildren’s sporting events, college sports and professional sports. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Tarr) Todd and husband Paul of South Carolina, Terry A. Tarr and wife Judy of Woodland, Randy L. Tarr and wife Martha of Caribou, and Lendell G. Tarr and wife Laurie of Ashland, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Alden Tarr, she was predeceased by her son, Kevin Neal Tarr, a daughter, Jennifer Joy Tarr, a brother, Marvin Dickinson, and sisters, Amber Dickinson Tarr and Doris Dickinson McBreairty.
Anita was very thankful for her special niece Noreen McIntosh who was a wonderful companion and caregiver for many years. She was also very close to what she called her adopted daughter, Cindy Privette, who supplied her with many goodies and rides.
The family would like to thank the Maine Veteran's Home Caribou, Cary Medical Center, and the Aroostook House of Comfort for their loving care.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 11AM until time of services which will be held at 1PM at the Perham Baptist Church, 681 Perham Road, Perham. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Perham. A time of continued fellowship and refreshments will follow the services. She was a lifelong member of the Perham Baptist Church, those who wish to contribute in memory of Anita are asked to do so through the Perham Baptist Church, 681 Perham Road, Perham, ME 04766.
