Elizabeth Ann Browning, 86, of Southside, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 15, 2023. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Collier Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Rea and Bro. Lauil Thompson will officiate with soloist Bro. Bill Drummons. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Ann was a lifelong resident of Southside graduating from Southside High School in 1955. She attended and graduated from Gadsden Business College. She retired as an Interviewer for the State of Alabama Employment office after a long career. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved spending time with and taking care of her family (especially baking with her grandchildren), tending to her many flower beds, and in the fall, cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dwight Browning; infant daughter, Cheryl Kay Browning; and parents, Norris and Roberta Phillips.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginger (Morgan) Smith and Karen (Todd) McCartney; grandchildren, Melissa Mitchell, Emily McCartney, Kyler Smith, and Kalyn Smith; great-grandchildren Cora Lynn and Theo Mitchell; sister, Jeanine Wyatt; brothers, Benny and Robert Phillips; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Morgan Smith, Todd McCartney, Kyler Smith, Jackson Wetherington, Scott Browning, and Jimmy Sewell.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to The James M. Barrie Center.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Regency Pointe Assisted Living and the nurses at Enhabit Home Health.
