Ann Cusack Obituary
Nancy was born and grew up in Newton MA. She went to Mount Alvernia Academy then attended and graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1950 and received her master's degree from Boston College. She taught mathematics in the Boston school system and at the Ursuline School in Salzburg. She was a great tennis and basketball athlete and loved skiing. Returning to the United States she met and married Richard J. Cusack in 1960. They moved to Chicago the mid-1960s and raised their family in Evanston.
She was a political and social activist for civil rights, women's rights, nuclear disarmament and the permanent war economies that waste the earth. She worked in the soup kitchens started by Dorothy Day who founded The Catholic Worker. Nancy and Richard were greatly influenced by their lifelong friendship with the Berrigan brothers. She lived a life of commitment to serving others and speaking truth to power. She was arrested for peacefully protesting at the School of the Americas but never stood trial. She was an active member of the North Shore Peace Initiative among many other non-profits.
It is also important that it be known she was a passionate supporter of mocha frappuccinos and ice cream with way too much hot fudge sauce.
There will be a private family funeral service held for her. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Chicago Peace Action formally known as the North Shore Peace Initiative www.chipeaceaction.org

From when I was a little girl, I always felt good in Nancy´s presence. She was kind and gentle and - best of all - truly interested. I am sad to know that I will never again see her beautiful face at a show or gathering or get to have another moment with her. But boy am I glad she lived and that I have her example of how to walk through the world lovely. My deepest condolences to the Cusack family and to the many others who loved Nancy.

I met Nancy only once and she left an impression, it was at Fr. Bob Kennedy's 50th anniversary to the priesthood in 2009. Before entering the seminary, Bob dated Nancy. My Dad and Bob were classmates with Nancy's future husband Dick at Holy Cross. May she rest in peace and be rewarded for the good she did on earth.

Nancy was a dear friend of my mother, Alice Porell. They were in college together at Newton. They kept in touch pretty regularly through the years until recently. I believe Nancy also knew my father, Bill Porell, way back when. Deepest condolences from the Porell family to the Cusack clan.
