Van Buren--- Ann B. Desjardins, 89, peacefully passed away August 15, 2025, with her family at her side, and is now living her Fifth Day. She was born March 9, 1936, in Keegan, ME, a daughter of the late Albert and Cecile (Thibodeau) Berube and was a 1954 graduate of former Sacred Heart Girls High.
Ann worked in homecare with Visiting Nurses of Aroostook and spent a lifetime of caring for others. She taught catechism, shared her faith with her students, lectured at St. Remi Church, assisted with funeral masses, helped with Mercy Meals, was a participant and volunteer on the prayer line and also a hospice volunteer. She loved visiting and caring for her many clients and cherished being able to bring them little gifts. Previously Ann worked for the former Soucy & Dubay clothing and grocery store right after high school, the local credit union, former JJ Newberry's, and the local nursing home. She was a longtime member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne, sang in the choir of St. Remi Church, and was a devoted Catholic. Ann loved raising her family and devoted every waking moment to caring for her husband and children. Ann enjoyed her grandchildren, busying her hands baking and cooking, and entertaining her visiting family and friends. Though her illness was overwhelming, her sense of humor always shined through.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Wilfred Desjardins of Van Buren; four children, Wayne Desjardins of Bangor, Donna Dubay and her husband Robert of Connecticut, Glen Desjardins and his fiancée, Jen Lausier, of Van Buren, and Lisa Michaud of Hermon; 6 grandchildren, Corey, Holly, Marcus, Lucas, Claudia, and Erica; one great grandson, Reese; one brother, Daniel Berube and his wife Barbara of Gorham; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by an infant, a grandson, Jesse Pelletier, a great granddaughter, Gracelyn, and siblings Edwin Berube, Gloria Violette, and Arnold Berube.
The Desjardins family extends their deepest and sincere appreciation to Ann's caretakers, Dawn Cormier, April Levesque, Randie Dube, Kim Lewis, Destinee Balintfy, Patty Carney, Nicole Laplante, and several others, who helped Ann maintain her independence through the years. Ann's grandchildren, Holly Michaud, Marcus Desjardins, and Erica Desjardins, never hesitated to step in to care for their grandmother. Also a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of Aroostook House of Comfort for their love, compassion and dedication to Ann and her family during her final transition.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main Street, Van Buren. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery, Van Buren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann's name may be made to: Aroostook House of Comfort, PO Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
