Ann M. Gildow, 68, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 6:24 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2022, following a challenging fight with breast cancer. She was born September 12, 1953, the daughter of Avery D. and Nelle Worstall Carpenter. Ann graduated from Rosecrans High School and continued her education at Ohio University and Zane State College. Her long career in local banking allowed her to work with thousands of people, developing lifelong friendships and focusing on our community. Ann considered her ability to "think outside the box" to help others a valuable asset. Ann has served as Zanesville City Councilwomen at Large for six terms, with the belief that networking and collaboration are integral to progress.
Ann was known for decorating for the holidays, both at her home and for local events. Among her prized possessions were her red, white and blue items and her Jimmy Buffett collection. She believed that festivity and fun were important in all of our lives.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Jean Gildow, and her grandson, Avery, her son, Tom Gildow and Tom's family, Brigitta and Wyatt Wilson. Also surviving are Ann's loving sister, Jane (Randy) Abele and the Abele "boys", Mike, Matt, John and Steve and their families, and Ann's cousin, Michael (Karen Duffy) Burke. Also surviving are Ann's canine kid, Bernie, and acquired family, David Winters, and his dog, Dexter. Ann's close friends were very dear to her, sharing countless experiences, many stories and several margaritas. Ann's life was enriched by her school classmates (Rosecrans Class of 1971), banking buddies, gardening gals, river fans, patriots and many fun friends. It is important to mention the storybook friendship and indelible bond Ann shared with her friend, Sue Culbertson.
Friends may call 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where services to Celebrate Ann's Life will follow at 2:00 PM, with Conrad Wolf officiating. Ann was an organ donor and a caring cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider donating to Muskingum Valley Garden Society or Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society in Ann's memory. There was a time when my finances were messed up through no fault of my own. It was almost Christmas, and all the overdraft fees would´ve meant the difference whether my kids would receive gifts. It was that bad. Ann forgave all the fees and i found out later that it wasn´t well received by her boss. I cannot express what this meant to me. It was my only interaction with her. Such compassion. Such compassion ....thank you Ann. RIP my angel when I needed one desperately...

Ann was an amazing lady-a wonderful friend to many, did so much for our community and raised 2 terrific children. She had so much room in her heart for others and will be sorely missed. Deepest sympathies to her family and all who loved her.
