Ann Hartzler passed quietly in her sleep with her family around her on July 8, 2025, in Bowdoinham, Maine. She was 67.
Ann was born on September 2,1957 in Chicago, Illinois. She is survived by her husband (Steven Bunn), sister Jill Hartzler Warner, (Nolan Hale), daughter-in-law Yongjiao Hartzler, and children Andrew Bunn, Alex Bunn, Evan Brooks Warner, Dane Simpson Warner, Griffin Phillips Warner, Daniel Hartzler, and Kaylee Hartzler. She is predeceased by her father Harris Dale Hartzler, her mother Phyllis Jean Butcher Hartzler, and brother Paul Harris Hartzler.

The oldest of three children, Ann grew up in the suburbs of Wilmington, Delaware. She met her husband while a student at the University of Delaware. Their love of Maine led them to Bowdoinham, Maine where they welcomed two children into the family: Andrew, and Alex. Ann was an accomplished musician. She loved music, played the piano, oboe, organ and sang in church choirs and was a member of the Oratorial Chorale of Brunswick. Ann attended Oberlin College and Conservatory, where she majored in Music and Mathematics. Ann finished her college education at the University of Delaware, where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration cum laude.
Ann and her husband moved to Maine in 1985. Ann found work with Michael Walsh Real Estate, in Brunswick as a Real Estate Broker. She worked as a paralegal for Richardson & Troubh/ Troubh, Heisler & Paimpiano as a paralegal in Portland. Then moved to the law firm of Kelly & Chapman in Portland. In 1997, wanting to be closer to home she joined the firm of John F. Loyd, Jr., Esq. in Brunswick as a paralegal. When John merged with Eaton Peabody, Ann became a paralegal for that firm. In 2006, Ann started her own business, North Star Title LLC, as owner and operator of a title research business. Ann was hired by CMP at the start of that company's effort to acquire land for the new power corridors CMP needed to upgrade Maine's power system. This combination of experience led to her being hired by the engineering firm of Burns and McDonald as a contract administrator. A position she held until her retirement.
Ann loved the Maine outdoors. She enjoyed hiking, biking with the Merry meeting bicycle club, and climbing Maine's mountains. She climbed Katahdin fifteen times. With retirement she found time to travel in Europe and recently returned from a five-week trip to Australia and New Zealand. Over the years she played the piano or organ for the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Brunswick, the Presbyterian Church of Topsham, and the Phippsburg Congregational Church. She was both a member of and past dean of the Portland chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In Bowdoinham, Ann served as a member on the library board and then as it's chairman. On leaving that position, she joined the Age Friendly Town Committee and helped run the monthly meals for seniors' program. She rowed with the local rowing club. Ann was constantly active and looking for a challenge. Walking the beach with friends a week before her hospitalization.
