Obituary for Ann Scarborough Hodges
Ann Scarborough Hodges, born November 26, 1938, in Huntsville, Texas, was called home by her Lord on July 12, 2025, at the age of 86.
The only child of Jim and Clara Scarborough, Ann spent her early years in Huntsville, where she was baptized at First Baptist Church. A proud graduate of Huntsville High School, Class of 1956, she went on to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. While at TCU, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
After college, Ann moved to Dallas and worked as a secretary at Exxon. It was there she met the love of her life, William H. "Hodge" Hodges, while living in the same apartment complex. They married on February 24, 1961, at Wesley Methodist Chapel in Huntsville and honeymooned in Monterey, Mexico.
Ann and Hodge made their home in Dallas, where they welcomed their two children, Leslie and Jim. In 1968, the family relocated to Houston and then to Huntsville in 1973, where Ann became an active and beloved member of the community.
Ann was deeply involved in her church homes-First Baptist Church and University Heights Baptist Church-serving for many years on the FBC finance committee. Her community involvement included the Junior Service League, the Wynne Home Committee, the Huntsville Study Club (where she served as President), and The Arts Council.
Ann had a lifelong love of travel and was especially proud to have visited every continent. She found joy in reading, gardening, and, above all, in having grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place for family gatherings.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Clara Scarborough, and by her beloved husband, Hodge.
She is survived by her children, Leslie (Andrew) Whitmire and Jim (Melissa) Hodges; her grandchildren, Katie (Dave) Keil, Bryce (Catherine) Whitmire, Austin Hodges, Tyler Hodges, and Zandie (Boudreaux) Campbell; and five great-grandchildren, all who brought her immense joy.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Karin Olsen for her compassionate care. A very special thank you to Gloria LeBlanc, Ann's devoted caregiver of many years. The love, care, and grace Gloria provided to Ann will forever be remembered and cherished by the family.
Ann lived a life full of faith, love, and service, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Texas or Samaritan's Purse (mail to: Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or online: samaritanspurse.org) in her memory.
A visitation will be held on July 30, 2025, at 4:30 PM at First Baptist Church Huntsville, with services beginning at 5:30 PM. She will be laid to rest following services at Brooke Cemetery. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com
