Ann Marie Johnson, 83, longtime Superior resident, died April 11, 2024, just four days shy of her 84th birthday. She was born April 15, 1940, in Duluth, MN to Orville and Helen Swanson.
Ann graduated as valedictorian from South Shore High School in 1958.
Ann Marie Swanson married Bob (Robert) S. Johnson on October 21, 1961, in Port Wing, WI, and they celebrated 51 years of marriage prior to Bob passing in 2013.
Ann raised four boys starting in Port Wing and then, in 1977, moved to Superior, WI. There she loved to support and cheer on her sons and grandkids in all the sports and other activities they participated in. There was always a hot meal, a place to crash and fresh baked cookies for the many friends of her sons and grandkids that came through the door, compliments of "Mrs. J" or "Grandma Ann".
Ann never forgot a face and would frequently approach people with the greeting "I know you!", and sure enough, she did. After a brief exchange, they would be chatting like there was no time that had passed since they last talked.
Ann was a playground aide at Lincoln Elementary for several years before it closed. She was also employed as a teller at many different banks, most recently M&I Bank in Superior before her retirement. Ann was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Ann is survived by three sons, David (Michelle) Johnson, Farmington, MN, Chad (Denelle) Johnson, Superior, and Cory (Stephanie) Johnson, Superior; eight grandchildren, Bridgette, Sydney, Gunner, Jacob, Jordan, Lauren, Paige and Carter; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Skylar and Felix; brother Jim (Marcia) Swanson, Port Wing; sisters Sandy Rasimaki, Port Wing, Glenda (Jim) Koski, Cordova, TN, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Stuart, brother Jerry, and her parents Orville and Helen Swanson.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E 5th Street, Superior, until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E Second Street, Superior with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Sarah Gunderson officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Port Wing at a later date.
