Ann Huston Kazarian, M.D., 91, of Southington (formerly of West Hartford) passed away December 22, 2023 peacefully after a brief illness. Ann was born to the late Clarence Paul Huston, M.D. and Vivian Polly Angeline Herrick Huston in
Parma, Ohio on March 18, 1932. She graduated from Allegheny College in 1954 before earning her Doctorate in Medicine from Cornell University Medical College in 1958. Ann was one of the first women to graduate from the Medical School at Cornell. She was the Chief Resident and then an Attending Physician in anesthesiology at New York Hospital from 1960 to 1967. When illness forced Ann to switch her specialty from anesthesia to psychiatry, she moved to Hartford and trained at the Institute of Living for her second residency. She took an extended leave from practice to raise two young children, and then returned to psychiatry in 1981. She then completed a third residency at the Connecticut VA Hospital before establishing a private practice in psychiatry specializing in women with mental illness, which she maintained until 2005. While in Hartford, Ann met the love of her life, the late Edward Vahan Kazarian. After dating for just 3 months, Ed proposed on the top of Mount Washington, NH. They married 6 weeks later during the Blizzard of 1969, on February 15th. Ann and Ed made their home in West Hartford, where they lived together for 30 years. She is survived by her two children, Edward Paul of Philadelphia, PA and Ann Elizabeth Morgan (David) of Southington, CT. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew and Catherine Morgan. Ann is predeceased by her husband in 1999, who she lovingly cared for during his prolonged illness, and her brother Robert Paul Huston. Ann also leaves behind family in Ohio. Ann was immensely proud of her grandchildren. In her retirement, Ann cherished her time with them as a regular babysitter. She even relocated with the family to Texas to watch them grow. Although she lived outside Dallas, she insisted on rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, "since they were Eddie's team". She had a quirky fascination with the weather, and would often call family and tell them what the weather was doing where they were! She was also an avid reader until her eyesight no longer allowed. She had a stack of medical journals at her bedside well past her retirement.
Ann's family would like to thank the staff of the Summit of Plantsville for their compassionate care of her during her final months. The dedication and kindness that was displayed each day to Ann, and the other residents, was extraordinary.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday December 27, 2023 at 12 PM at Molloy Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 1PM. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery at the conclusion of the Memorial Service. Ann's life's work was treating women with mental illness. In that light, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a
charity of your choice that supports mental illness.
