I knew Ann from NAON. A remarkable RN and editor. Ann took on the responsibility of being the Editor of the Orthopaedic Nursing Journal, She helped many nurses become educators through their writing skills.
Ann will be missed.

Ann was truly special and touched so many lives with her passion and knowledge in nursing. She will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with her. I am proud of being one of those. My thoughts are with her family.

I am grieving the loss of one of the giants in the field of orthopedic nursing. Ann Maher was a sharp-witted, passionate and exceedingly generous nurse. She willingly shared her vast knowledge and expertise. A role that she truly enjoyed was mentoring and she willingly shared her knowledge and expertise her entire life. Ann had a sharp pen and helped me and many others to become better writers.
Most of all I am grieving a fantastic friend. I, am an orthopedic nurse from Sweden and I met Ann and her good friends Anita & Karen at an orthopedic conference in Malta back in 2010. It was that ICON nursing meeting, on a tiny island in the Mediterranean, where our friendship started. Over the years we traveled together, and we got to know each other´s families. I recall attending a nursing meeting in Orlando Florida in April of 2015. After that meeting my husband Mats and I visited Ann and her husband Charlie. Ann was a perfect travel planner and our private tour guide in New York. In 2017 Charlie arranged a VIP visit at the Goodyear Training Center for the Cleveland Indians National baseball team. Having Mats along meant that Ann was able to get a behind the scenes tour as well. We, orthopedic nurses and sometimes together with Ann's sister Flo, have attended many conferences around the world and always combined it with some days for tourism afterwards. During the pandemic, we used Zoom to connect and plan for future articles and travels. Our last travel was to the NAON conference in Pittsburgh in May 2023. The meeting occurred over my birthday and we had a fantastic dinner overlooking the city of Pittsburgh by twilight. Our next adventure was being planned, we were going to London this spring, Ann loved London. I am proud to say Ann was my friend, and now that she is gone, I am grateful to have many wonderful memories. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure, I will always treasure my many memories of my friend Ann.

As a long standing member of NAON, I remember Ann fondly of all her contributions to orthopaedic nursing, being a mentor and a sounding board. She had championed budding careers and interests in research and writing, and was always there to foster ideas and make dreams turn into reality. She will be missed. Sending condolences to her family and friends.
