Ann Scott, 71, of Draper, Utah, departed this world, while in the presence of her adoring daughters, as a result of her prolonged struggle against Alzheimer's in the early hours of April 29, 2024. Ann was born and raised in Manchester, England where she would eventually meet, marry, and start a family with David Scott. Ann was trained as a primary school teacher and worked for one year teaching a large combined 3rd and 4th grade class. After that first year teaching Ann gave birth to the first of her and David's five children, who would all then become the center of Ann's teaching endeavors.
Thanks to David's entrepreneurial soul, Ann and David chased the American dream by immigrating with their then three young children to North Hollywood, California. After North Hollywood didn't turn out to have much in common with the movies, they eventually settled in the Salt Lake Valley because of their personal connections as members of the LDS Church. Aside from Ann and Dave's conspicuous and ever present British accents, their young family quickly integrated into American life.
Ann's world revolved around her personal relationships, in particular with her husband and her children. She was most happy in the presence of family and friends, especially in the form of hosting and entertaining. She loved to socialize and have a full home. She had the cutest British accent and said funny British phrases that made almost no sense to her five children, so much so that they would often tease her and use them incorrectly, on purpose, to make her laugh. She loved her children and never missed an opportunity to both tell and show them how much.
For Ann, small talk was anything but. A truly gifted conversationalist, she constantly made real connections with people thanks to her ability to empathize with them and take interest in those things most near and dear to their hearts. This genuine interest combined with her nonjudgemental nature made her into the world's best listener and confidant. She was so talented at getting into deep conversation with those around her that her family would often strategize her immediate extraction from concluding social events in order to minimize the chance that she would get stuck chatting. What they all wouldn't give to be able to continue chatting with her now.
Ann was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in a multitude of callings which included Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society leadership roles, and even as an inner-city missionary with David at her side. She taught by example and left a legacy of faith and influence which will continue to be felt long into the future. Ann's family rejoices in the knowledge that they will get to live with Ann again, and also that she is now at rest and is able to reconnect with her deceased parents, William and Kathleen Roberts, including future family members yet to be born. She is survived by her husband David, her children Laura (Adam) Soffe, Sam (Lacey) Scott, Charlotte (Shea) Richards (soon-to-be McMurdie), Chloe (Tyler) Ray, and Cameron (Hannah) Scott. Ann is the grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 11 boys and 6 girls, with another little girl on the way. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Ball.
The public visitation for Ann Scott will be held on Friday, 10 May 2024 at 10:00am MDT at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah, 84095. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am MDT.

When we were new to our Draper neighborhood, David and Ann were so warm and welcoming. They not only made us feel at home but they made us feel like we had "come home". Every conversation with Ann was a delight. She truly had a special way about her. Heaven is now a better place because she is there. Much love to all of you...Jon and Michelle Sargent
