Negaunee, MI - Ann I. Steede, age 75, of Negaunee, entered her eternal home on Sunday, November 15, 2025, at her residence with her loving family by her side, following a courageous year-and-a-half battle with cancer.
Ann was born June 20, 1950, in Marquette, a daughter of Fred and Audrey (Nancarrow) Lindstrom. Her parents were married nearly ten years when she arrived, and she was truly cherished as a long-awaited blessing. Ann enjoyed a happy childhood, spending countless hours playing neighborhood games and participating in Brownies and Girl Scouts.
While attending high school, Ann met the love of her life, Henry "Hank" Steede, during her sophomore year. The two began dating, and on the night of their high school graduation in 1968, Hank proposed, placing an engagement ring on her finger. Ann completed the Practical Nursing program at Northern Michigan University, while Hank was drafted into the United States Army. After completing basic and advanced training, he received orders for Vietnam. The couple married on June 28, 1969, after 13 months of engagement. Ann told Hank she would rather be his widow than never marry him at all. Two months later, his orders changed and the newlyweds began their married life together in Washington, D.C., where Hank was assigned to the Pentagon.
Ann worked as an LPN at National Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital in Arlington, Virginia. On October 13, 1970, she and Hank welcomed their first child, Robert ("Bob") Michael, and embraced every joy of early parenthood, spending days exploring parks, swinging at playgrounds, and laughing together at home.
In 1971, Hank was honorably discharged and the family returned to Marquette, where he joined the Marquette City Police Department. Ann resumed her nursing career at St. Luke's Hospital. Their second son, Brian Henry, was born on August 25, 1973, at which time Ann devoted herself to being a full-time mother. Together, she and Hank raised their boys with strong Christian values, love, and encouragement.
When her children neared their teenage years, Ann returned to work as the secretary at Bethel Baptist Church, a role she expected would last only until the boys completed college-yet she joyfully served 35½ years, retiring at the age of 72. She loved her work, her church family, and the opportunity to support ministry in meaningful ways.
Ann faithfully supported her sons through years of activities including baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, hockey, AWANA, and youth group, happily spending countless hours on bleachers, cheering, and watching Hank coach. She treasured her role as Grandma to Dalton, Cara, Brianna, and Caden, making memories, helping care for them, and sending them off to school. She attended every event she could, always showing up with love, pride, and joy.
In March of 1974, Ann made the most important decision of her life-placing her faith in Jesus Christ. From that moment forward, she lived with steadfast conviction, hope, and service. She faithfully served at Bethel Baptist Church in various roles, always with a humble heart and a love for the Lord. Because of her faith, her family rests in the promise of seeing her again in heaven.
Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Henry "Hank" Steede; her sons, Robert "Bob" (Andrea) Steede and Brian (Cori) Steede; her grandchildren, Dalton (Molly) Steede, Cara (Marcus Stern) Steede, Brianna Steede, and Caden Steede; her great-grandchildren, Eden and Alice Steede; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Friends may call at Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Brock Youngren and Rev. Brian Oberg officiating.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and support and to Ann's daughter-in-law Cori who's loving and compassionate care made it possible for Ann to remain in her home.
