Anna Lizzie Bryant was born December 4,1936, in Marshallville, GA to the late Venus and Lizzie Dee Rumph. She was the oldest of thirteen children and the first grandchild on both sides of her family. Anna was named after her grandmothers, Anna Rumph and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cleveland. Family has always been a big part of her life.
Upon graduating from Lamson Richardson High School in Marshallville, GA, Anna moved to Sanford, Florida to help take care of her Grandmother Lizzie Cleveland. While living in Florida she met and married the late Joseph Bryant. They started a family in Oviedo, FL raising Audrey and Darletha, before moving to Rochester, NY, where they had two more daughters, Shirley and Rosalind.
Anna accepted Christ in her life at an early age, she joined and became a lifelong member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church after moving to Rochester. She served on the Usher Board and was a member of the Willing Workers. She enjoyed her church family and traveled with them on several trips, including California, to see the Price is Right and two cruises.
Anna worked at Stromberg Carlson and General Dynamics before being employed by Eastman Kodak, where she worked for over twenty years before retiring. After retiring she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed using some of her free time helping Shirley with her daycare. She was affectionately called "Ma" by her children, grandchildren, daycare and neighborhood kids, because of her loving demeanor and warm smile.
Anna's family meant the world to her and every summer she would take her daughters to visit family in Georgia and Florida. Anna wanted her daughters to know their family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She also loved to attend family reunions to connect with her family. She just loved being with family and friends and kept everyone laughing with her quick wit. She was a good cook and sometimes as her family would call it "mix things up", because you never knew what extra ingredient would be added. Sweet potato pies were her favorite dish to cook for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a tradition that has now been handed down to her oldest grandchild, Devonne.
Surrounded by her family, Anna peacefully left this earth on January 28, 2025. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Rouse and Pearlie Wilson; brothers, MB, Robert, Venus Jr., Freddie, and John L. Rumph; and grandson, Christoffer Owens.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughters, Audrey (David) Jackson, Darletha Bryant, Shirley (Arthur) Owens, and Rosalind (Brian) Nix; grandchildren, Devonne and Denise Jackson, Aaron and Tyler Owens and Niaya and Brianna Nix; great-grandchildren, Taylor Stith-Owens, Olivia Jackson and Thomas Christopher Asare; brothers, Willie (Diane) Rumph and Cornelius Rumph of Marshallville, GA; sisters, Lois (Sam) Rice of Marshallville, GA, Annie (Jessie) McKenzie of Fort Valley, GA, and Mary (Willie) Brewer of Bryon, GA; brother-in-law, John Bryant of Oviedo, FL; sisters-in-law, Pearl Rumph of Orlando, FL, Mary "Al" Rumph of Marshallville, GA, Elmira Alexander, Elizabeth Bradley and Linda Bryant of Rochester, NY, Jeanie Williams of Lake City, SC and Vola Mackey of Madisonville, KY; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Anna will truly be missed and will forever live in our hearts.
