Anna Lepard Evans, 103 years and 9 months, passed away January 24, 2026, at her home at Winfield Senior Living. She was born April 24, 1922, in
Valley Center, KS. She was joined in marriage to Ernest J. Evans April 25, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas. From this marriage, they had four sons.
Erwin Evans (Kathy) Cedar Rapids Iowa, Albert Lee Evans (Marcia)
Winfield, KS, Dwaine Evans (Cindy) Bowdoinham Me., and Stanley Evans (Melinda) Clearwater, KS.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stewart A. Lepard and Agnes May Benjamin Lepard, husband Ernest, oldest son Erwin, Daughter in Laws Cindy and Kathy Evans, and two Grandsons, Travis and Robbie Evans.
She is survived by her remaining three sons and 13 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and two Great Great Granddaughters.
After graduating from Valley Center High School, Anna worked at various jobs, including Western Union in Wichita during WWII. During that time, she met Ernest Evans at a church dance in Wichita. He was working at Beech Aircraft and farming at the Family Homestead near
Corbin, KS.
After dating and getting married, Anna and Ernest moved to the family homestead, which Anna had never seen before. From there she adapted to a life of farming which lasted nearly 50 years.
During the early years, she was an integral partner in the farm by helping with harvest, the dairy, and other day to day chores. Later, when the boys were bigger, she focused on being a homemaker. She was known for her large meals prepared during hay hauling, the silage cutting and the wheat harvest. No one ever went away hungry. Her picnic lunches sitting under the combine during harvest were memorable.
Anna always had something to keep her busy. She was very active in the Corbin United Methodist Church, the Caldwell Arts & Craft Guild, NMH Aux Sewing Room, the Skylark 4-H Club, and all the boys' activities. In retirement, she devoted much of her time to the Caldwell craft shop. She had a knitting machine which became one of her many skills, plus the knitting she did by hand. After selling the farm, she and Ernie spent their time preparing for and going to craft fairs; she with her sewing and knitting and Ernie with his woodworking.
Anna and Ernie also enjoyed traveling. Once, they took their van, converted for camping, up to Ernie's Canadian homestead in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and drove through much of Canada finding his relatives, friends and landmarks. They also went from North to South on cruises to Alaska and one to Acapulco, Mexico. Other trips took them to see Dwaine in Maine and Erwin in Iowa.
After moving from the Homestead near Corbin, Anna and Ernest moved to the little blue house on the corner of 9th Street in
Winfield, KS. There, Anna lived until a fall in 2022 sent her to Winfield Senior Living, where she lived until she passed.
