Anna Markiewicz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP - West 38th St. on Jun. 16, 2023.
Anna Clare Markiewicz, age 15, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday June 13, 2023, surrounded by her family. Anna was initially diagnosed with medulloblastoma in 2019. She courageously underwent treatment for nearly 4 years.
Anna was born on May 6, 2008. She was the daughter of David and Jennifer (Amenta) Markiewicz.
Anna was a graduate of the 2022 8th Grade Class, St. Luke School. While at St. Luke's she participated in several sports, including soccer, cross country, and basketball. She was athletic and competitive, always supportive of her teammates and respectful of her coaches. Anna was the Student Council President and a beloved Pre-School Aid. She valued service to her school.
Anna appreciated and loved the little things in life. She loved to read, shoot hoops, bake, build complicated Legos, paint, and shoe shop. She enjoyed binge watching sitcoms, especially Friends, and Disney movies. They were her outlet for humor and levity on good days & bad. She was blessed with a content spirit.
Anna was kind and compassionate, humble, nurturing, and gentle, funny and lighthearted. Children flocked to her both at school and among her family. She was adored by her beloved cousins, both younger and older. She was happiest when she was among them at family gatherings.
Anna was remarkably determined, perseverant, and driven. When she set out to do something, she crushed it. She would rise to every challenge.
Anna was vibrant and resilient. She had a creative spark and passion for giving back to other children undergoing illness. She became a design winner and collaborator with the company Headbands of Hope. The collaboration contributed to thousands of donations for critically ill children, throughout the world. She was inspirational.
Anna was preceded in death by her Paternal Grandmother, "Busia" Martha Markiewicz, and her Aunt Theresa (Markiewicz) Brozewicz. She is survived by her parents David and Jennifer Markiewicz, brothers Luke, Nicholas, and Jack, sister Leah. Maternal Grandparents Lawrence and Carol Amenta, Paternal Grandfather David Markiewicz, several loving aunts, uncles, and cherished cousins.
Anna's absence in their life will be profound. She was the light of her family's life, Inspiring and gracious. She was joyful, intelligent, beautiful, and funny. Her laugh was infectious. Her voice was gentle and sweet. Her presence brought light and joy. She embodied goodness. They are comforted knowing they have a "Family Angel" now.
Family and friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St., on Monday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. and may attend a funeral mass on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th St. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
