Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and CrematoryAnna Mae Smith, 85, of Fremont, OH departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2025 at Majestic Care of Clyde. She was born on December 15, 1939 in Fremont, OH. Anna attended Fremont Ross High School. Anna married J.C. Smith on July 11, 1981 and he preceded her in death. She was a cook and dishwasher at Whitey’s Dinner for thirty-eight years until she retired in 2006.
Anna was a member of Warren AME Church where she was also the organist and pianist. She enjoyed puzzle books, traveling, fishing and cooking. Anna mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Anna is survived by her daughters, La-Tanya Edwards and Charlene Jones; sister, Lucille “Nadine” (George) Phillips all of Fremont, OH; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of stepchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her natural parents, Cleveland Branch and Lucille E. Caldwell; adoptive parents, Carter and Charlotte (Brady) Caldwell; husband, J.C. Smith; sons, Edward “Pumpkin” Caldwell, Norse “Al” Jones and Eddie Jones, Jr.; sister, Joan Harris and brother, Gene Branch; grandchildren, Chance Edwards and Marcus Jones.
A celebration of life will take place on October 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH. A visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made in Anna’s memory to Heartland Hospice or Majestic Care of Clyde.
