Anne McIlwaine Obituary

A service honoring the life of Anne McIlwaine will be at 1pm on Saturday, Sept. 28th at Lord of Life Lutheran Church with a reception following.
Anne Reynolds McIlwaine passed away on September 2, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 82. Born November 19, 1941, in Richmond, VA. Anne's life was a life well-lived.
Anne's early life in Salem, VA laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. She pursued her education with a focus on home economics, earning her BS from Mary Washington College, which reflected her lifelong passion for family, community, and the art of homemaking.
She spent many years in retail, helping to put her sons through college, as she became the manager of two jewelry stores, where her impeccable taste and friendly demeanor made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and customers alike.
Anne's heart was always with her family and friends. She shared a beautiful and enduring love with her husband of 60 years, William McIlwaine. Together they raised two sons, Kevin and David McIlwaine. Being a mother was one of her greatest sources of pride and joy. She instilled in her children her values of truthfulness, love, commitment, kindness, and generosity. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Ella, Owen, and Kate, with whom she loved spending time and creating cherished memories, especially while baking her famous brownies.
Music, travel, and reading were among Anne's favorite pastimes, but nothing compared to the pleasure she found in the company of her friends and family. Friendships lasted decades and spanned continents. Anne's presence was a comfort to all who knew her, and her generosity of spirit was felt by everyone she met.
Anne will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bill, her sons Kevin and David, her grandchildren Kate, Ella, and Owen, and her brother Billy Reynolds. She was predeceased by her brother John.
Anne's friends describe her as the epitome of friendliness. She truly never met a stranger. Her smile was contagious, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and special was one of her most remarkable traits. Anne's generosity knew no bounds, and she was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was in her work, her community, or in her personal life.
