Annie Mary Swift, a beloved figure to many, peacefully departed this life at her home in Indianapolis, IN, on December 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 20, 1947, in Pheba, MS, Annie was a beacon of love, strength, and unwavering faith throughout her life.
Annie dedicated many years of her life to working in a factory, where she not only honed her skills but also forged deep connections with her coworkers. She affectionately referred to them as her children, illustrating the profound impact she had on the lives of those around her. Her loving nature and ability to connect with others were hallmarks of her personality that left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A woman of steadfast faith, Annie's unwavering belief in God served as a foundation throughout her life. She remained a committed member of Abundant Life Ministry Community Church, where her wisdom and kindness as one of the Church Mothers enriched the spiritual community. Throughout her life, her faith never wavered; even in her final moments, she could lift her hands in praise, giving all glory, honor, and praise to God.
Annie was known for her gentle spirit, her strong and dependable nature, and her remarkable ability to bring a smile to anyone's face. She believed in loving unconditionally, never judging others, and showed compassion to all. Her hobbies included decorating, making flower arrangements, and cooking for family and friends, a skill that made her famous for her delicious Murphy Burgers at her own restaurant, Linda's Place. Her cooking was so revered that friends and family frequently sought her advice on culinary matters.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John Swift, and her daughter, Lesia Akinsonu (ID Akinsonu). Annie's legacy will continue through her granddaughters, Porcha Arnold and Jasmine McNeil (Jeffrey McNeil), her great-grandson, Jaleel McNeil, and her siblings, Dossie Gates (Annette Gates). She also leaves behind a host of siblings, nieces, and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
Annie was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Cassell, and a host of beloved family members, who have undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
A graveside service to celebrate Annie's life will be held on December 19, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, located at 9700 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN. Pallbearers will include Tristen Welch and Glenn (Tre) Peters, Jeffrey McNeil, and Cordell Pipes.
Annie Mary Swift will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, whose spirit and love will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
