We celebrate the life of Annie Elizabeth Tull, a beloved figure in her community, who left this world peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 88 in Parksley, Virginia. Born on July 29, 1936, in Jenkins Bridge, Virginia, Annie grew up with the loving guidance of her late parents, Dorsey L. Holden and Viola Sheppard, and later shared a cherished life with her late husband, Ralph Tull, Sr.
Annie Elizabeth Tull's journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness and the joy she brought to those around her. She was a product of the Accomack County Public Schools, where she laid the foundation for her strong work ethic and community involvement. Annie's professional life culminated in her role as a cook at the Days Inn in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Her culinary skills were legendary, with customers often requesting that she personally prepare their meals. She delighted family and neighbors with her signature sweet rice, applesauce cake, and biscuits, dishes that became synonymous with comfort in her loving hands.
Annie's commitment to her faith was evident through her avid participation at Friendship United Methodist Church, which later became New Beginnings United MC. There, she served God and her congregation with devotion as a member of the usher board, eventually serving as its President, and as a melodious voice in the Senior Choir. Her spiritual dedication was a beacon of light to all who knew her.
One of Annie's passions was gardening. You'd often find her in her front yard pulling weeds, planting flowers, and making sure Ralph and Rudolph weren't mowing her flowers with the lawnmower. An-nie's house was always a bustling sanctuary for love and laughter. Her heart and home were open to her seven children and a stream of cousins, friends, and sometimes even strangers. Under her roof, everyone found a warm welcome. Her love extended beyond people to the animal kingdom, where pets of all kinds, including birds, rabbits, hamsters, tropical fish, cats (who all went by the names of Simba or Mufasa thanks to movie The Lion King) and dogs, were cared for. Her last pets were her dog, Patrick, and her cat, SpongeBob.
Annie Elizabeth Tull's memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her community and family. Her radiant smile and generous spirit will be sorely missed, but the seeds of kindness she planted in eve-ryone she met will continue to flourish for generations to come.
In addition to her parents and husband, Annie was preceded in death by her four brothers, two sisters, three great-granddaughters, and one grandson.
She will be remembered by her seven children, Ralph Tull, Jr. (Ada) of New Church, VA, Garry Tull (Teresa) of Dover, DE, Shirlene Tull-Harmon (Micah) of Greenbackville, VA, Nina Tull of Milford, DE, Elvis Tull (Lynn) of Biloxi, MS, Timothy Tull (Lynne) of Fayetteville, NC, and Tabatha Williams of Statesboro, GA; two sisters, Faye Frazier of Jenkins Bridge, VA and Effie Mitchell of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Lester Holden of Jenkins Bridge, VA and Randy Holden (Vicky) of Norfolk, VA; brother-in-law, Rudolph Tull of New Church, VA; sisters-in-law, Martha Tull of New Church, VA and Estelle Tull of Pocomoke City, MD; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and two great, great-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.
