Anthony Colletto Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Costello-Runyon Funeral Home - Metuchen on Oct. 8, 2024.
Anthony (Tony) Colletto, Sr. 87, of Edison, New Jersey born January 11, 1937, passed away peacefully, at his home, on October 3, 2024.
Tony is predeceased in death by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Mary Lyons Colletto. He is also predeceased by his parents John and Catherine Colletto, brothers Calajero, Domenic, Francis, Leonard, James, and sister, Eleanor Barger.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Leslie C. McCullough, of Somerset, NJ; his son, Anthony Colletto, Jr. and his wife Janet of Houston, TX, and the joy of his life, his grandson, Joey Colletto, of Warminster, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Prendergast of Michigan, his brother and sister-in-law, William and Karen Colletto, of Edison, along with numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, including with special gratitude and acknowledgement for assistance, support and care, his beloved niece Cindy Oxccimo and her husband Jeff; as well as many cousins and good friends.
Tony was born in Edison, where he resided throughout his life. He is a graduate of New Brunswick High School, class of 1956.
Tony served as a PVT E-2 in the US Army from 1960-1962. His first year of service was spent on US Duty, while he served his second year in South Korea. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct and Marksman (Rifle and Carbine) Medals.
In 1965, Tony was appointed Firefighter 1st Grade, to the Edison Fire Department. His career with the EFD, was his true passion and calling; indicative of the selflessness with which he lived his life, daily. To say that Tony loved his career/profession is an understatement. He was, first and foremost, a firefighter; going to fires on his days off, visiting firehouses wherever he traveled, and constantly monitoring fire calls, from his chairside radio. He retired from the EFD, holding the rank of Fire Captain.
During the last months of his life, Tony received exceptional selfless, kind, patient care from his caregiver Samuel (Sam) Akai, to whom we are forever grateful and appreciative.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 6PM through 8PM, at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave (Rt 27), Metuchen.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 12 noon, at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, followed by interment at 1:45 PM at Van Liew Cemetery, 585 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
