Anthony V. DeStefano, affectionately known as "Tony D," was born on December 18, 1946, and peacefully passed away on October 8, 2023. His life was a testament to dedication, selfless service, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Tony is predeceased by his parents, Lucy Marie Gatto and Vincent Joseph DeStefano. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Ann Mitcham, “Terri,” who he loved for 46 years and spent 37 of those years happily married and living life to the fullest together.
He leaves a legacy behind through four children, spouses and six beloved grandchildren: Nicholas, (Megan), grandsons Calvin and Cooper; Mark (Lisa) granddaughter Beatrice; Gregory (Holly) grandchildren Sebastian, Ambrose and Stella; and daughter Marigrace.
In addition, he is fondly remembered by his sister, Florence A Spellerberg,“Florie”, her husband Tom Spellerberg and their 5 daughters and 27 grandchildren, who were touched by the warmth, kindness and great laughs from time spent with “Uncle Tony”.
Tony was a distinguished individual, holding an accounting degree from Benjamin Franklin University. He began his career and spent over 20 years dedicated to Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department (PGFD) where he held assignments as Budget Analyst, Public Information Officer and Command Staff Member at the Office of the Fire Chief.
His educational background and professional expertise were complemented by his numerous community roles. Upon retirement from PGFD, Tony reflected and acted on his continued and deep-rooted desire to make a positive impact, which prompted him to open Tax Depot with his wife Terri in Calvert County.
As the prominent business owner of Tax Depot, his dedication continued to shine through his involvement as a Calvert County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors member, where he served as Treasurer. He also played a vital role as the Vice Chair of the Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC). On top of these volunteer roles, he also spent over 15 years serving the DeMatha Catholic High School music program to coordinate travel and concert logistics, including many years after his sons had graduated. There is no doubt his unwavering support for local nonprofits and his role as a mentor, impacted countless lives in a positive and lasting way.
While these endeavors and accomplishments were important to Tony, his number one priority was always his family. He loved spending time with his true love Terri in their second home and one happy island, Aruba. Whether it was on vacation or quality time with the kids and grandkids you could always find Tony sharing a laugh, enjoying a beer, taking a nap whenever he finally sat down and sharing a meal made with bad groceries.
A viewing to celebrate Tony's life will be held on Friday, October 13, at the Lee Funeral Home, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. During the evening viewing from 7-9 PM, a Rosary will be said at 8 PM.

He loved visiting Myrtle Beach and attending Champion Autism Network events with the family. Whether it was a sensory friendly movie, a visit to the aquarium or any other event, he loved seeing Calvin get to be himself in a safe and supportive environment.
