Anthony Hykel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colonial Funeral Home of Irving on Oct. 1, 2025.
Anthony "Tony" Hykel, 89, of Irving, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Baylor, Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano. He was born on January 7, 1936, in McLennan County, Texas, to Vincent and Anastasia Hykel. A Christian Mass will be held in his honor at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, where he was a charter member. Following the Mass, a Celebration of Life Reception will take place at The Glory House, 109 S. Main Street, Irving, TX. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home in Irving, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Left to cherish Tony's memory is his son, Daryl and wife Catherine Hykel and grandchildren Molly & Emersyn "Emma" Hykel and Tony's sisters, Marylou Clawson and Magdalene Gajdica, Tony's beloved wife, Sylvia Ann passed away April 30, 2016. If there were one word to describe Tony, it would be steadfast. Tony was remarkably even-keeled-rarely troubled, always cheerful, and anchored by a deep and abiding faith. He embodied the words of John 16:33, finding peace in his faith regardless of life's challenges. His unwavering steadiness was deeply rooted in his Catholic Czech heritage, which instilled in him a profound sense of faith, community, and tradition. A lifelong Catholic, Tony was deeply devoted to his spiritual journey. He and his beloved wife of 56 years, Sylvia, were charter members of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church since its founding in 1964. Together, they were pillars of the parish community. Tony served faithfully as an usher for many years and played a key role in organizing the annual Church festival. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, offering his service and leadership to the organization. His commitment extended to youth ministry as well-he was an assistant football coach at Holy Family during the legendary tenure of Coach George Cole Sr., helping shape generations of young athletes with his guidance and character. Tony's faith wasn't just a personal commitment-it was a gift he passed on to his family. His steadfast devotion laid a strong spiritual foundation that continues to shape the lives of those he loved most. He was also a man of many passions. A gifted storyteller, Tony could captivate any room with his vivid recollections and warm humor. He had a collector's heart, amassing a wide array of coins, stamps, baseball cards, model cars, and other treasures. An enthusiastic sports fan, he followed the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys with unwavering loyalty. Tony found peace and joy in nature-spending time at the family farm, gardening, and fishing. He and Sylvia shared a deep pride in their Czech heritage, delighting in dancing the polka and waltz. Music and tradition brought their family together, especially at the Ennis National Polka Festival and Westfest in their beloved hometown of West, Texas. Tony's life was a beautiful testament to faith, family, and enduring love. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, joy, and unwavering devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
