Anthony Klos Obituary

Ipswich, MA - Anthony F. Klos, 69, of Ipswich, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2025, at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Beverly, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony J. and Stella (Aponas) Klos and a lifelong resident of Ipswich. He graduated from Ipswich High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Assumption University, where he met his wife, Joan Klos. Anthony and Joan started their life and family together in Ipswich. Together, they owned and operated Bread of Life Whole Foods Market in downtown Ipswich for many years.

Anthony was a long-time veteran of the wholesale fish industry, working as President and Co-Owner of Fresh Water Fish Company in Boston, MA for 30 years. Later in life, he discovered his calling as a Recovery Counselor at Recovery Centers of America in Danvers, MA. He found deep purpose in helping others achieve sobriety, and he touched the lives of countless patients and staff.

Above all, Anthony cherished his roles as a devoted son, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, known lovingly as "Papa," or "Bapa" to his grandchildren. He lived with unwavering devotion to family and friends. Anyone who knew him has a story for how he positively impacted their life, shared wisdom and comforting words during a hard time, or brought a smile to their face with a story. He was a man of strong Catholic faith and served as a lector during Sunday Mass at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Topsfield for many years.

He loved working outdoors and cultivating his gardens, both at home in Ipswich and at the homes of his children. He beamed with pride when bringing a distressed plant back from the brink, or sharing a big batch of home-grown tomatoes. He found it therapeutic to help things grow and flourish.

Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Joan Klos; his son, Anthony Klos; his daughter Andrea and son-in-law Jeffrey Horne of Beverly, MA; his daughter Alison and son-in-law Jesse Lee and his three granddaughters, Madeleine, Margaret, and Millie Lee of Beverly, MA. His granddaughters were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Avery of Tasmania, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park St., Topsfield, MA, on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, on Thursday, October 2, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial at Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Rd., Ipswich.
