Anthony K. "Tony" Lanning, of Newark, passed away peacefully at his residence in Newark, Ohio, on December 18, 2025. Born on November 29, 1958, in Zanesville, Ohio, Tony was a man of deep faith and unwavering spirit who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered throughout his 67 years of life. He is survived by his devoted siblings, Jim (Esther) Lanning, David (Susan) Lanning, Steve Lanning, Gary (Debbie) Lanning, Sally (Jim) Foglesong, Janet Hodge and several nieces and nephews After honorably serving his country in the United States Navy, Tony returned to civilian life and dedicated many years of service to the Athens Water Department and Columbus City Water before retiring. His commitment to serving others continued as he took on the role of a driver for Catholic Social Services, where he was known for his reliability and the kindness, he showed to all he assisted. Tony's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a longstanding member of the Together Ministries Church of the Nazarene, he served on the church board and was recognized as a true servant of Jesus Christ. His unwavering devotion to his faith and his church community was evident in his every action and word, inspiring many who had the pleasure of knowing him. Outside of his work and church activities, Tony was a proud member of the Roseville American Legion Post 71. He was an avid Ohio State fan and could always be found watching on game day. Tony's love for reading, particularly history, was well known, and he could often be found engrossed in a book, always eager to share the fascinating facts he learned. A true intellectual, Tony was a fan of the game show Jeopardy, never missing an episode and often impressing others with his wide breadth of knowledge. Tony was preceded in death by his loving parents, Edward and Ruby (Eppley) Lanning, his brother Larry Lanning, and his sister Susan Rich. Calling hours will be held Friday December 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street, Crooksville where funeral services will begin at 1:00pm with Pastor Jim Lanning and Pastor Gary Sidle co-officiating.
