John Reed Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ross-Frash Funeral Home – Crooksville on Jan. 19, 2026.
John F. Reed, 80, of Crooksville, passed away peacefully at his residence in Crooksville, Ohio, on January 15, 2026. Born on June 26, 1945, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to the late John W. and Evelyn (Lemity) Reed, John spent his life cultivating a legacy of love, hard work, and community spirit. During most of his working life he dedicated 37 years of service to Owens Corning, where as a member of the yard crew, his commitment and work ethic were exemplary. Beyond his professional life, John was a 1963 graduate of Crooksville High School, an active member of his community, including his involvement with the Morgan County Beagle Club and his devout service to the Iliff Congregational Methodist Church, where he served on the board and as a trustee. A man of faith, John's Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his existence. His love for the church was surpassed only by his love for his family. John leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Susan (Kimble) Reed, his children, John Reed Jr., Lyndell (Mark) McFann, Floyd Reed, and Michael (Christy) Reed. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Amber Reed, Jessica Reed, Zac Reed, Samantha Morris, Conner Reed, and Jacoby Reed, his great-grandchildren, Honesty Henderson, and Marvin Michael Morris and by his siblings, Raymond Reed, Gloria Allen, Kay Watts, and Ruby Reed, sister-in-law Wilma Reed, as well as his faithful fur companion, Sophie. John's passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He was an avid hunter, often found in the serenity of nature hunting rabbits, turkeys, and deer. Earlier in life, he enjoyed the thrill of stock car racing, spending his Saturday nights at the Six Mile Turn or on a dirt track in West Virginia. His love for sports extended to coaching baseball, where he took pride in leading the Crooksville Little League Dodgers. A true fan at heart, John never missed a chance to cheer on his Ohio State Buckeyes. John was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Evelyn (Lemity) Reed, his brothers Bill, Bob, and Kenneth Reed, his sister, Marie Wells, daughter-in-law Traci Reed, brothers-in-law Duane Watts, Mike Helser, Bob Allen, and sisters-in-law Vonnie Reed and Wanda Reed. His loyal fur companion Toby also preceded him in passing. Calling hours will be held Monday January 19, 2026, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Iliff Congregational Methodist Church, 3992 Flint Ridge Road, Crooksville, where funeral services will be held Tuesday January 20, 2026, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Emory Clark officiating. Services will conclude with burial in the New Lexington Cemetery. Following burial, a celebration of life meal will be held at Iliff Church and all in attendance are invited.
