Anthony F. Matera, age 91 of Fenwick Island, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to Dominick and Mariannina (Germano) Matera and was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Brooklyn, NY. A Korean War veteran, Tony served in the United States Navy where he played the trumpet in the US Navy Band, Bainbridge, MD. Tony later attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from the University of Delaware.
Tony retired from the DuPont Company after 30 years of service. He began his career as a Chemist at the Experimental Station, where he assisted with developing several patents and grew the first silicone crystal for DuPont. He retired as a District Sales Manager in the Medical Products Division. An avid fisherman, Tony loved boating, fishing, and crabbing at his homes in Fenwick Island, DE and Ormond Beach, FL. When he wasn't walking the beach or teaching his grandchildren how to fish and crab, Tony enjoyed playing the trumpet with the DuPont Band, the First State Symphonic Band and the Len Gray Orchestra.
Tony is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores (Fucella) Matera, his children, Nicolette Diaz, Denise Ridgway (Wade) and Michelle Feldmann (John), his seven grandchildren, and brother Joseph Matera. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Angela D'Amico.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Monday, July 25, 2022 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 12:00pm. Interment will be held in All Saints Cemetery.
