Anthony J. "Tony" Matijevic, age 50, who departed this life on April 11, 2025, surrounded by many loved ones at Hillcrest Hospital. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 15, 1974, Tony was a beacon of light to all who knew him, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Sandy Matijevic; his cherished children, Ava and Mia; and his devoted parents, Stijepan and Luca Matijevic. He is also mourned by his sister, Mariana Vazdar (Tomislav), and his sister-in-law, Renata Vodopic (Mario), mother-in-law Anka Jurcevic (Stjepan-deceased) along with his adored nephews Tomislav, Kristian, Lukas, and niece Darija. Tony's warmth will be remembered fondly by family members across the globe, including those in Canada, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Australia, and Germany as well as his beloved brothers and sisters in blue.
Tony lived life to the fullest, embracing everything from shooting and camping to the joy of sun-soaked days at the beach. As a dedicated professional, he served the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department as a detective, drawing on his earlier experience as an officer for the City of Eastlake. His proud career spanned over 25 years as he dedicated himself selflessly to his community. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Tony instilled a sense of honor and duty in all he did, and he will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.
Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Tony's life during visitation on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Monreal Srnick Funerals & Cremations, located at 35400 Curtis Blvd, Eastlake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Divine Word Catholic Church, located at 8100 Eagle Rd, Kirtland. Following the service, Tony will be laid to rest at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
As we honor his memory, let us celebrate the joy he brought to our lives, his infectious sense of humor, and his ever-willing spirit to lend a helping hand. Tony will forever be remembered in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to support the future well-being and education of his young children.

Tony was such a great guy..I had the good fortune of knowing him during grade school at St. Pascals and in high school..he was such a funny guy! I met up with him recently and I was so happy to hear how much he loved his family! He spoke very highly of his girls and his wife. I only wish I could have seen him more often. Tony "Bone" will be missed but I'm sure he's got Jesus cracking up in heaven as we speak. Rest in peace brother
