Anthony Monaco Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Feb. 11, 2026.
Anthony F. Monaco, III of Essington, Pa. passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026.

Born April 21st, 1946, in Southwest Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Anthony F. Jr. and Louise (Luberti) Monaco of Folcroft. He had many names, such as Buddy or Bud in the Monaco Family, Buddy Bear or Bear by his school friends, Tony in the workplace, Pop, Chief and Dad by his boys, Honey Bunny by his wife, Uncle Buddy, Uncle Tony, and finally, Grandpop. Regardless of how he was addressed, his pleasant disposition, smile, sense of humor, kindness and helpful demeanor never wavered.

Tony (Buddy) was a 1964 Graduate of John Bartram High School and enjoyed a long and successful 40+ year career in Timekeeping and Payroll at Boeing in Ridley Park, Pa. where his uncanny memory of numbers was very useful, From the East to West coast, he was respected for his loyalty, extensive knowledge and served as a Team Member on many special projects throughout the company, and making several 'life' long friends along the way. His crowning achievement was he never missed a payroll, spending the night drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee to analyze the problem to get the checks printed and delivered on time.

He found joy in so many ways and things in life. As a child through teenage years, Tony studied and played accordion and loved various types of music but tended to return to the 50's and 60's Golden Oldies. He was an avid fan of the Beach Boys and Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. When he moved to Essington in the early 80's, he served as a 'school mom' and eventually President of the PTA for St Margaret Mary's Catholic School. Taking a quick crash course in rules and regulations, Tony coached Little League soccer one year because they were short a coach.

Tony always enjoyed the beach and vacations, whether it be New Jersey, Florida, Bahamas, Aruba or St. Maarten. He was not an avid swimmer and always joked about learning to swim under the fire hydrants in Philly. He enjoyed travelling with numerous friends and family, loved returning to his roots and meeting up for lunch with the "corner boys, Boeing friends, along with family members. Tony was always ready to take a summer drive to Pop's Water Ice, Pat's or Geno's. In his earlier years, he was a member of the Volleyball and Bowling Teams at Boeing and was a devoted fan of the Eagles and Phillies. Up through his retirement, Tony lived an active life and never slowed down, but you would often catch him sleeping on the floor or on his recliner to catch a few Z's. He especially enjoyed just spending quality time with family, friends and, of course, the cats. He was deeply respected and loved by many and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife of more than 45 years, June (nee Ferrell), whom, most time called "Sweet Stuff", and sometimes not. Tony was the devoted father of three sons, Tony IV (Sharon), Dante, Joseph (Monica), Granddaughters Valera and Elicia, his sister, Roberta Caserta, brother Ron (Tina) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was deeply loved by the entire Ferrell Family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann, brother-in-law, Jack, and his first wife, Angel.

In lieu of flowers, family invites donations to Forgotten Cats, Greenville, DE or The American Lung Association. (See Links Below)

Buddy was my "BROTHER" in-law for over 50 years, a great Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, friend .....a great human being. He always had a great big smile anytime you came in contact with him. He really had a rough time of it over the past few years with his health declining but always kept his sense of humor. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him...may Buddy finally REST IN PEACE.....Love and Miss you Brother....holidays will never be the same
