Nicholas Panco Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Feb. 11, 2026.
Nicholas Joseph Panco Jr., known affectionately as Nick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Salem, NJ, at the age of 79. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 14, 1946, Nick was the cherished son of the late Nicholas Joseph Panco Sr. and Mary Kohler Panco. His life was marked by courage, a zest for adventure, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

Nick's early education took place at Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, followed by Monsignor Bonner High School. Fresh out of high school Nick answered the call of duty, his thirst for adventure and challenges by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at the tender age of 18. He served his country with valor, spending over 18 months in combat zones during the Vietnam War. His bravery in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him. His pride and experiences from his time serving his country continued throughout the years by being an active member in Vietnam Veteran Chapters, serving as a VFW Post Quartermaster and advocating for fellow veterans by helping them navigate through the veterans administration to obtain the benefits and help they required and deserved.

Following his honorable military service, Nick's life was filled with passions that he shared with those around him including camping, hunting, boating, fishing and music festivals. One of those passions was obtaining a bachelor's degree from Penn State University which eventually led to his career managing a traveling vascular lab working under the tutelage of Dr. Anthony Kidawa. He retired to Lewes, DE, from West Grove, PA, where he continued to follow his love of the outdoors.

His love for photography and art led him to a fulfilling hobby in custom framing and stained-glass works. Nick's passion for fishing and the beach came from his times spent with his Uncle Butch visiting him at his home Sea Isle City, NJ, creating lasting memories with friends and family throughout the 80's. Known for his camaraderie, Nick cherished the "Happy Hours" he spent with his veteran friends, whom he proudly called "his brothers."

Nick is survived by a loving family who will miss him dearly. He is remembered by his son, Nicholas David Panco; his brothers, Michael L. Panco and Edward Panco; and his sister, Maryann Panco – Luke.

His enduring friendship with his loving ex-wife, Connie Kelley, and the affection of several nieces and nephews, further attest to the warmth and love he spread throughout his life. Nick's legacy is one of courage, loyalty, and the joy of living life to the fullest.

He approached each day with a sense of purpose and a heart open to the beauty of the world around him. His absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but the stories of his adventures, his laughter, and his unwavering spirit will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday February 21 from 12 noon to 1:00 PM at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home 301 Chester Pike, Norwood. Followed by his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be Private.
