Obituary published on Legacy.com by ZIEMER FUNERAL HOME-NORTH CHAPEL on Dec. 22, 2025.
Anthony John Rexing, age 42, known as "Tony" by those near and dear, died on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the home of his birth on the North Side of Evansville. Tony was born on April 7, 1983, and was preceded in death by his father, Ernest John Rexing (2002) and his mother, Mary Rose (Barwe) Rexing-Hall (2021).
Tony and his sister, Stephanie, spent a lot of time at their Nana Barwe's house as kids, and his Nana was more than happy to oblige her grandson's favorite childhood meal, BB and B breakfast (Bacon, Biscuit and Brownie).
Tony later graduated from Mater Dei High School in 2001 followed by a year at USI, but was drawn to Tri-State Bearing, the family's business, founded by his maternal grandparents and her family. Tony worked there his whole adult life and felt the call to pick up the torch and carry the business into the next generation.
To know Tony was to love him, with his infectious sense of humor and a laugh that would make everyone around relax and enjoy the moment. Having never met a stranger Tony's heart was big enough to encompass everyone and make them feel that they belonged. He was described as a kind soul and a "dynamite" person. Tony enjoyed hanging with friends but also was a happy homebody. You often could find him playing golf, traveling the world with family, tinkering with his father's old car, or shining and polishing his truck, but only if you could pull him away from whatever sports happened to be playing in his man-cave filled with audio/visual toys.
In recent years, especially in the wake of his parents' deaths, Tony fought the demons associated with alcoholism. As much as he loved life and as often as he reached out for help, alcoholism was the final cause of his death. If Tony were here today, he would encourage those in similar battles to reach out, get help, and fight with everything you've got, as your life depends on it.
Tony is survived by his sister, Stephanie Rose Rexing (Jaimie Bombard) of
San Francisco, CA; beloved Godparents, Diane (Barwe) and Jim Relleke of
St. Louis, MO; dear family friends, Andrew, Phil and Cathy Osborne of Evansville; along with many other friends, near and far; and innumerable beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in early 2026 with more details to follow. Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Vanderburgh Humane Society, P.O. Box 6711, Evansville IN 47719-6711 or Friends of Mental Health, 415 Mulberry Street, Evansville IN 47713.
