Anthony "Buddy" Steward of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at the age of 83 with family by his side.

Buddy was the beloved husband of Cheryl Steward, with whom he shared 58 devoted years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, and time spent with the people they loved.

He was the proud father of Meredith "Merry" and her husband, Ryan Siegel, of Boston. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Steward of Braintree, and his cousin Joan Perrow of Quincy, who was lovingly referred to as his second sister, along with many other loving family members and dear friends.

A lifelong educator, Buddy graduated from Braintree High School in 1960, earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Boston State College, and completed his master's degree in telecommunications at Bridgewater State University. He taught for six years in Holbrook, Massachusetts, and then devoted 30 years to Marshfield High School, where he made an enduring impact on generations of students.

At Marshfield High School, Buddy developed the school's telecommunications curriculum, reflecting both his forward-thinking mindset and his passion for engaging students in meaningful, hands-on learning. Known affectionately as "Stew," his students proudly considered themselves part of "Stew's Crew." He deeply loved teaching and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues from Marshfield High School. Even after retirement, Buddy remained actively involved with the school, volunteering his time to work wrestling tournaments and support school events.

Beyond the classroom, Buddy embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He loved to travel, especially to St. Augustine, Florida, Aruba where Baby Beach held special memories and on a European cruise to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with Cheryl.

He found great joy in gardening, enjoying both his vegetable garden and his flowers, with dahlias and zinnias among his favorites. He also enjoyed researching patterns and creating stained glass, a hobby that reflected his creativity, patience, and love of learning.

Buddy cherished time with friends and family. He organized regular family lunches to stay connected with extended relatives and spoke daily with his daughter Merry during her commute home from work calls that were a highlight of his day and often turned into a running weather report for wherever she was headed next, complete with his thoughts on how it might affect her plans. He was fiercely protective of his family and would do anything to ensure their safety and happiness.

A caring and generous person, Buddy helped anyone he could and looked forward each year to donating toys to Toys for Tots during the holiday season.

He was a devoted sports fan, passionately supporting the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, often discussing games with his sister Marie and his son-in-law Ryan. He adored the Rolling Stones and relished any opportunity to attend live music and concerts with family and friends. He enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino to try his luck, often winning at Let It Ride. His last trip was to Las Vegas, where he combined his two favorite things: a little gambling and seeing the Rolling Stones live in concert.

Above all, Buddy will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family, students, and community. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched as a teacher, mentor, friend, husband, father, and brother.

Visiting hours will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home, Marshfield, on Wednesday, December 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at MacDonald Funeral Home on Thursday, December 18, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Milton Cemetery.
