Anthony (Tony) Tarantino
Anthony (Tony) Tarantino was born in Brockton, Massachusetts to Louis and Louise (Minerva) Tarantino. Tony graduated from Brockton High School, and continued his education at LIU/C.W. Post University where he earned a Bachelor's degree. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
While at C.W. Post he worked in several college clubs and organizations, primarily booking concerts, films and other student activities. He gained experience in various forms of security while in college which were the steppingstones to his 40 year career as a private investigator. One of the standout experiences of his early career was to protect the young family of the Shah of Iran and investigate their prospective dates.
These experiences led to his employment at Intelligence Services, Inc. working in the security division of the company and through the mentorship and friendship of company owner Kevin Peterson and his wife Linda, moved his way through various positions ending up as Vice President of the company. Upon Kevin's retirement Tony became co-owner and then owner of ISI. Highlights in this portion of his career include handling security for Ron Delsner's Central Park Concerts, security at Studio 54, running the armed courier service and completing many investigations for insurance companies, casino management companies and even for the government during the 1980s banking crisis.
Tony was active in civic affairs. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Baldwin Public Library for several terms. Tony was also active in the Baldwin Kiwanis Club and for many years acted as advisor to the Key Club, the high school version of the Kiwanis. As one group of Key Clubbers stated in a card to him: "We think we've become successful "men" or "women" because of your guidance".
Tony is survived by his wife Nora, his cousins Guy Detrani and wife Judy, Nick Detrani and wife Claudia, Paula Hereau, Jim Medeiros and wife Carol, Maria Ottaviano, and Rob Ottaviano. He was a loving uncle and mentor to a younger generation of cousins and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baldwin Kiwanis Club, The American Kidney Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
