Anthony T. Silano, 75, known fondly as Tony, “T-Sil”, or “Big-T”, of Harwinton, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 12th, 2024, after battling a brief illness. Tony was born in Torrington, CT June 2nd, 1949, to Michael R. Silano and Lauretta M. Martin. Tony was a 1967 graduate of Lewis S. Mills high school where he was a stellar soccer and track and field athlete alongside his twin brother Mike. In his years following high school, Tony enjoyed staying active while playing in local softball, bowling, and golf leagues. He also loved cars, his favorites being a 1963 Chevy Impala, 1967 Pontiac GTO, and 1966 Oldsmobile 442, all of which he stock raced at Lebanon Valley with many trophies won over the years. In his professional life, Tony worked as a data processing supervisor at The Hartford Insurance Group and Peoples Bank of Bridgeport. After changing careers, he served with equal passion at the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families, working as a social worker where his dedication touched the lives of many. One of Tony's greatest joys was spending time outdoors or at the beach, particularly at his cherished Vermont cottage, where he found solace in fishing and the beauty of nature. In addition, he enjoyed annual trips to Misquamicut, RI, and Gloucester, MA, both places he loved dearly.
Tony was an avid sports enthusiast, his heart belonging to the UCONN Huskies, the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and the New York Giants. He could often be found cheering passionately for his teams, sharing in the triumphs and defeats with his family and friends. Tony was also known for his green thumb and enjoyed gardening, as well as meticulously mowing lawns to perfection.
Above all else, Tony valued his family. Raising his two children, Tony and Erika, brought him immense pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Tony will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warm smile, kind heart, jokes, and unwavering loyalty touched the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that brightened the lives of others.
