John Silano Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. on Aug. 29, 2024.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John James Silano on August 27, 2024, at the age of 85. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
John James Silano was born on December 3, 1938, in Torrington, Connecticut, to Louis Silano and Carmela Romeo. John attended Eastchester High School. He joined IBM as a salesman while attending Pace University at night. He was the first in his family to get a college degree. He met Alice Parker at IBM and they married in May 1967. They moved to Yorktown Heights, NY, and then to Eastchester, NY, where Alice remains today.
John worked for IBM in White Plains and New York City for 30 years selling point-of-sales systems (cash registers) but was unable to get his VCRs to display the correct time. For those tasks, he relied on his children Michael and Christopher. After leaving IBM, John joined the accounting department of Trinity Real Estate in NYC where he worked for 12 years.
John spent much of his free time at the Eastchester Italian American Citizens Club where he served in a variety of leadership roles including president. Other hobbies included watching New York sports (Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers), taking care of the family's dogs, and terrorizing the family cats. Family vacations were spent in Ocean City, NJ, or visiting family in Florida or Rochester, NY.
John spent the last three years living at the Chelsea in Greenburgh, an assisted living facility. He was suffering from dementia and believed he was on an extended vacation in Ocean City or a prolonged hospital visit, returning home in a few weeks.
John is survived by his wife Alice, sons Michael and Christopher, daughters-in-law Sang and Carmen, and grandchildren Emilia, Christopher, Lee and Camryn.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 8, from 1-3 PM at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle, NY in John's memory. Westchester Humane Society
