Anthony Wortham

Obituary
On Sunday morning, November 5, 2023, the Lord called for a servant from a life of pain and suffering. Anthony Wortham answered that call.
Anthony, known to his family and friends as: Ant, Adam, Ant- nee, Tony was born on February 7, 1961 in Queens, NY to the late John Wesley Wortham Jr. and the late Willena B. Wortham. He was the 4th of 5 children to this union. He lived his early childhood years in Queens and Far Rockaway, NY, and while still young, his family moved to Roosevelt, Long Island NY for a better life.
Anthony was raised in a God-fearing home. He served as an altar boy with his brothers at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where you can still find their pictures hanging on the church wall today. One of the things that was instilled in the Wortham children was that no matter what, you make sure you take care of each other. Because if you didn't, you knew a whooping was gonna come your way. And thats just what they did. His brothers and sister devoted to maintaining care for Anthony around the clock during his illness, so that he would never be left alone.
Anthony was a community servant, he served for over 32 years for the TOH Department of Sanitation and served them well. He has served as a care taker at the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Baldwin, NY. He has also served his community by volunteering at Baldwin Fire Department for over 15 years. You could ask him what his Hose Co was, and he would proudly tell you without a doubt: Hose Company #4. Anthony created a life long brotherhood with many of his team members, those who stood by him till the very end.
Most of you know Anthony was a lover of animals. If you saw Anthony around town, more than likely there was a big red dog that looked like a large fox riding shotgun named Sam; and if you were not a dog person, you were one by the time they left.
Anthony was a great humantarian, always helping others and trying to make them smile whenever he could. His quick wit and personality grew on you like his smile. His smile could outshine the sun and his laugh was infectious. Even in the worst of his illness, he would still look at you and smile and give you a thumbs up. His kindness towards his fellow men was evident by the people who reached out or kept in touch to ask about him.
But even through his smiles, laughter, generous heart, humantarian deeds, and animal goodwill, there is no greater accomplishment than the birth of his beloved daughter, Jade, who he shared with his life long partner Sharon. His love for his Jade and hers for him was like no other. They were like 2 peas in a pod, they would laugh together, hang out, go to the movies, concerts, the father-daughter dance, you name it, they did it. And if you never met her, you still knew of her because she's all he ever brags about. No father could have loved a daughter more.
To mourn his loss, Anthony leaves behind, his devoted daughter Jade N. Wortham (Sharon), his loving brothers, John W. Wortham III, Michael Wortham & Gerard Wortham and his devoted sister, Deborah Victor Wortham. Three nieces, Naima A. Muhammad, Tiffany L. Williams, and Khadijah L. Wortham; who made that life saving call to get Anthony the best doctors that we could, thereby allowing us to be able to have more time with him. A host of Aunts, Grand Niece & Nephews, Cousins, other relatives and many sorrowful friends.
The family extends our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the prayers and phone calls during our time of breavement. To his friends at the bank; Donna & Diana, thank you for looking out for him. His neighbors Janice & Stephanie, thank you for watching the house, and neighbor Dana, thank you for that phone call. Special thanks to our fireman family; Clyde Riggins, Brien Cummings, Kenny Bobb and Maureen Carl. Without your help, without your calls, prayers and support, this would have not been possible. Our family will forever be in your debt. May your blessings be tenfold.
