Antia Holden, affectionately known as Anthony to his friends and family, left this world suddenly on June 6, 2025, at his residence in Pocomoke, Maryland. Born on February 17, 1951, in the peaceful town of Makemie Park, Virginia, Anthony grew up with the virtue of hard work.
The loving son of Thelma Holden and the late Herman Holden, Jr., Anthony was a treasured member of his family. Though his father preceded him in passing, his mother, now in the twilight of her years, cherished the years spent with her son, whose memories will remain a comforting presence in her life.
Anthony's humble beginnings in the Accomack County Public Schools laid a solid foundation. His early years on the farm with his grandfather John Dennis not only taught him the value of a day's work but also brought him the simple joy of connection to the land and his family heritage. In later years, Anthony found his calling as a delivery driver with State Line Machine and Vending Co. in Wilmington, Delaware.
Not one to shy away from a good story or a hearty laugh, Anthony's interest in talking with friends was as potent as his fondness for a drink among good company. His presence was a comforting and lively one, often the heart of a conversation, leaving behind echoes of joy and wisdom in the wake of his parting.
With his sudden departure, the world is diminished in its richness, as the loss of Anthony Holden is felt deeply. He was a man of laughter, work, and simple joys-a presence that will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his father, Anthony was preceded in death his grandparents, stepfather, James Tunnell, and brother, Herbert Holden. Just a few short days after his departure from this earthly realm his brother, Coston Holden joined him in the spiritual realm.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his son, Anthony Jerome Holden of Wilmington, DE; daughter, Maresha Harris of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Courtney Bailey, Kadynce Holden, and Deshawn Isler, all of Wilmington, DE; mother, Thelma Holden of Pocomoke, MD; nine sisters, Yvonne Holden of Pocomoke, MD, Shelly Holden of Suffolk, VA, Daphine (Roland) Major of Pungoteague, VA, Denise Parker of Bridgeton, NJ, Robin Holden of Princess Anne, MD, Kimberly Robin-son of Lincoln, DE, Tango Holden of Richmond, VA, Bernadette (Arthur) Meyer of West Palm Beach, FL, and Ethel (Warner) Ross of Horntown, VA; four brothers, Herman Dwight Holden of Pocomoke, MD, Doyle Tunnell of Richmond, VA, James Randall Tunnell of Wattsville, VA, and Brian Grant of Bridgeton, NJ; two uncles, Gralyn Hinmon and Lester Holden; special friends, Bobby Rice and Abraham Drummond; thirty-two nieces and nephews, seventy-eight great-nieces and nephews, and forty-two great, great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
