Antoine Deshawn Galloway, affectionately known as "Mae Mae/Mater", departed this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1988, to the late Russell Chapman and Barbara Galloway in Newport News, Virginia. Antoine is survived by his father Anthony Bennett of Yorktown, Virginia.
He graduated from Woodside High School in Newport News where he also lived and worked for the majority of his time here on earth. He was a member of Life Line Full Gospel Church in Virginia where he sang as a member of the Butterfly Choir, danced on the praise dance team, and served as an usher.
Antoine was a generous soul who brought laughter and light into every room he entered. He told jokes often (many of them, he borrowed from Bone!), and reminded us all that, "Money don't sleep," "We were on the right track but the wrong train," and that he killed Bigfoot! Oh and let's not forget, Maeter was a dancing machine too! If a new dance move dropped, you could count on him to know it and show it wherever there was music. At times, music wasn't even necessary for him to bust a move and "Cut a rug" or maybe even a hardwood floor! His laughter and smile were simply infectious. Without a doubt, Antoine was an entertainer and he was also trendy. When it came to fashion his spirit amplified any fabric or jewels that wore. He was loved dearly by his family and friends but nothing compares to the love that was given and received by him and to him from his daughters, nieces, and nephews. He loved them and they sure loved him! Antoine was a soul that touched many and was loved by all, his impact on every one of us is felt; he will be missed in ways unimaginable!
Antoine is predeceased by his maternal grandmother Geraldine Galloway; paternal grandmother Helen Bright; mother Barbara Galloway; father Russell Chapman; aunt Lavine Chapman; and cousin Alexis Galloway.
He leaves behind laughter and countless memories with his beautiful siblings, Shronda Galloway, Tasha Pickett, Deshaun Orie, and Carlos Erskines; his love, light, and energetic spirit will continue to live through his three children, Alani Galloway, Kali Galloway, and Kaydence Galloway, all of Newport News, VA; maternal aunts, Jenifer Galloway and Sandra Galloway, who adored him beyond measure especially because he was the only boy; paternal aunts, Patricia Coles, Monica Chapman, and Louis Chapman; paternal uncle Gerald Carter; cousins with whom he was raised as siblings, Tasha Galloway, Tabatha Galloway, and Shanee Galloway; five nephews, Ty'Lique Ray, Justin Gibbs, Martell Orie, Zion Turner, and Jaiden Brown; seven nieces, Marlie Gibbs, Myheir Orie, Enderiya Gooding, Imyah Turner, Avianna Turner, Neveah Erskines, Cassidy Erskines, and Catrice Moore, who will also cherish the memories and of course, the dance-offs; his brothers from another mother who will forever cherish the time spent and their unbreakable bond, Baby Jim, Courtland (Thugga), Kash, Slick, Dater, Black, and Tevin; his friendly pit bull, Lola; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate Antoine's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Galloway may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in the funeral home.
