Antonio Macapagal Herrero (Tatay), 84, of West Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at 1:15 AM, surrounded at bedside by the love of his family.
Antonio was born on February 11, 1941, in Cebu, Philippines, and grew up in Tondo, where he developed the quiet strength, humility, and kindness that would define the rest of his life. He was the steady rock of the family—soft-spoken but unwavering, always ready to help, support, and care for those he loved.
A talented and dedicated professional, Antonio worked as a marine surveyor and naval architect, earning the respect of colleagues for his sharp mind, strong work ethic, and deep commitment to his craft.
Outside of work, Antonio embraced life with a warm and joyful spirit. He loved playing the guitar, singing with his Santo Niño group, and spending time chatting and laughing with his friends. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls, and he cherished evenings watching Filipino shows, tending to his garden, building things with his hands, and being surrounded by family. Family was his greatest passion, and his happiest moments were those spent with the people he loved most.
Antonio, lovingly known as “Tatay,” is survived by his beloved wife Clarita (“Nanay”); his children and their spouses: Arnel & Lovella, Carlo & Ninah, Erick & Lecille, and Sheila & Glenn; and his grandchildren Carinah, Joshua, Ashlie, Jason, Arielle, Christian, David, Adrian, Jordan, and Liam. He is also survived by his siblings Teresita, Honorio, Elizabeth, Henry, Ofelia, and Percival and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bienvenido and Ignacia; his brother Wilfredo; and his sisters Elizabeth (the first) and Lourdes.
His legacy of kindness, generosity, and strength will continue to live on through each of them.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont Street (One block north of Washington St. & Main St.) West Chicago.
