Eleanor I. Sacco, a cherished beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 89, in Naperville, Illinois.
Born on February 12, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, Eleanor's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, and her enduring kindness. Eleanor's early years were spent in the small suburb of Elmwood Park where she attended Notre Dame High School. After graduation, she began working as a switchboard operator at the Frigidaire Corporation. It was there that she met the love of her life, Vito, who predeceased her in 2010. Their union was blessed with five wonderful children, who in turn filled Eleanor's life with joy and purpose. A loving wife and a doting mother, Eleanor embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom with grace and dedication. Her children, Julie (Russ) McCormack, Michael, John (Julie), Steven (Lori), and David, were the center of her world. She poured her heart into nurturing them, guiding them with her wisdom, and supporting them with an open heart and listening ear. Eleanor's love extended beyond her immediate family to her cherished grandchildren, Joshua (Christina) McCormack, Jessica McCormack, Michael Vito (Brittany), Karly (Tim) WIldman, Jordan (Sandy) Ryan, Bella, and Bodie (Georgina) Chavez. She was a constant presence in their lives, celebrating their triumphs and comforting them through challenges. Her great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Sofia, Eliana, John James, Giavana, and Gabriella, also basked in the warmth of her love and the glow of her pride.
A devout Christian, Eleanor's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She lived her beliefs through her actions, exemplifying Christ's love and compassion in her daily interactions. Her friends and family members always found in her a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to lean on, reflecting the friendly and loving nature that she was best known for.
Eleanor found pleasure in life's simple joys. She was an avid reader, and she cherished the times spent with her friends. Music filled her home, with the melodies of Andy Williams, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra often playing in the background of family gatherings, igniting memories of days gone by and sparking impromptu sing-a-longs.
Those who knew Eleanor were touched by her gentle spirit and friendly demeanor. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and familial devotion. She lived a life that was full, not of worldly possessions, but of moments that mattered, relationships that were cherished, and a faith that was lived.
As we bid farewell to Eleanor I. Sacco, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that has undoubtedly ascended to the heavenly realms. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved Vito and resting in the eternal peace of our Lord.
A celebration of her life will be held in April of 2026. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (mercyhome.org). She will then be interned alongside her beloved Vito at St. Joseph Cemetery.
