Antonio Horace Valdez

Antonio Horace Valdez, affectionately known as Horace, was born in Chama, New Mexico, on February 20, 1935. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who brought incredible joy and laughter to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Horace's remarkable journey came to a peaceful end on October 4, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he now rests with the Lord.

Throughout his life, Horace found great fulfillment in his career at Capital High School, where he was treasured by students and staff alike. His engaging personality was a source of light for many; he possessed a unique ability to connect with people, often sharing his trademark jokes and songs. His silly renditions of tunes like "Crazy Mazie" would undoubtedly brighten someone’s day.

A devoted family man, Horace cherished the time spent with his loved ones, particularly during the holiday season, when laughter and togetherness filled the air. He held most dear the memories created with his daughters—Margaret, Joann(Peter), Theresa(Louie), Dena, and Becky—and his many grandsons and granddaughters, great-grandchildren along with his brothers- Rudy(Lugie) and Milton, whose milestones filled him with immense pride. Horace often emphasized the importance of health and well-being with his wise sayings, reminding everyone, “Don’t hurry so you can last,” "No Te Pures pa que Dures!" and “Your health is your wealth.” These reflections reveal a man who understood life's true priorities.

In his leisure, he embraced life through music and dance, filling his home with delightful sounds and joyous movements. He was also an ardent football fan, passionately supporting his favorite teams, an enthusiasm he shared with family and friends.

Horace was preceded in death and reunited with his loving wife Alice, along with his parents, Antonio and Emma, his in-laws Bences and Corina, his son Jerry, son-in-law Frank and his brothers Louie and Jake, as well as his sister Louella and Aunt Rebecca along with many other relatives & friends who went before him. Their memories are forever cherished in the hearts of those who remain, as is the profound impact that Horace had on all who knew him.

Though he has departed from this earthly realm, the legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom that Antonio Horace Valdez leaves behind will shine brightly in the lives he touched. His spirit will continue to live on in the laughter of his children and the joy of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reminding them to embrace life with humor and gratitude, celebrating every moment together.

A Rosary will be held on October 22, 2025, at 10:00 A.M., followed by Mass both taking place at Santa Maria De La Paz Church, located at 11 College Ave., St. Santa Fe, NM 87508. Interment will be at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens Cemetery 417 Rodeo Road Santa Fe, NM 87505 to follow after Mass.
