Apollo Dyer, the beloved domestic shorthair boy of the Dyer family of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Apollo was born in July of 2010, and he became a member of the Dyer family the following August. He was adopted from the ARPO-Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership Animal Rescue Facility of Indianapolis.
According to Nancy, "They were having an adoption event at a local PetSmart. We did not go into the store looking for additions to our family, but when I saw Apollo, it was love at first sight, and it was like we were meant to find each other on that day."
From the day little Apollo arrived at his new home, he was loved.
Nancy described Apollo's personality as "being the absolute most chill cat on the face of this earth. He never got stressed out or upset about anything."
Apollo's favorite toy was anything with catnip. Apollo also loved being able to bury his head in Nancy's ball cap when she took it off.
Nancy shared, "Apollo had a funny thing about trying to get his head all the way down into a glass to get a drink of whatever might be at the bottom of the glass."
Apollo's favorite treat was the remaining milk from Nancy's cereal bowl. He also loved getting some cheese from her pizza.
Apollo's family loved so many things about him that it was hard to narrow it down to what they loved the most about him, but Nancy shared a few things that stood out:"His adorable and gentle way, he would wake me up in the middle of the night to let me know he wanted under the blanket and to cuddle up next to me, and he was so affectionate and loving with everyone that came into our home."
Nancy relayed a sweet memory of Apollo: "As a kitten, he was sick and had to be isolated from his brother, Sherlock, and they would touch their paws through the gap in the door that separated them so that they could be together and comfort each other."
What Apollo's family felt he valued the most in life was "being loved and giving affection."
The family's favorite nickname for Apollo came from their grandson, Nathan. "When Nathan was little, he couldn't say Apollo; it always came out 'Apoddo,' so every time we came home, we would say, 'Apoddo, we're home.'"
Apollo was a loving boy, but he was closest to Nancy. Nancy shared that they were soulmates and their bond was immeasurable.
Apollo is preceded in death by his half brother, Sherlock, who was waiting to greet him on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. They were very close and loved each other very much.
Apollo will forever be greatly loved and heartbrokenly missed by his family, Nancy, Joyce, and Nathan, and all the others who loved him deeply.
