Obituary published on Legacy.com by Threadgill's Memorial Services, LLC on Dec. 2, 2025.
April Barfuss Monson, age 70, passed away on November 24, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. Born on April 17, 1955, in Downey, Idaho, she was the daughter of Victor and Mary Barfuss. April was known for her kindness, determination, and unwavering faith, qualities that shaped every part of her life.
April is survived by her husband, Scott Edward Monson, and their children: Lori (Brycen) Woodley, Dan (Yvette) Monson, Grant (Taylor) Monson, Stuart (Brittany) Monson, and Diane Monson. She also leaves behind 14 cherished grandchildren.
She is survived by her siblings Robert (LeeAnna) Barfuss, LaDawn Christenson, Dree (Todd) Rasmussen, Scott (Diane) Barfuss, and David (Deanna) Barfuss; her sister-in-law Natalie (Rick) Call; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Mary Barfuss; her brother, Brock Barfuss; and her brother-in-law, Robert Christenson.
April graduated from Meridian High School in 1973 and later served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission. After marrying Scott, they made their home in the Portland area. Together they built a rental property management business, ADI Properties. As their family grew, April chose to devote herself to being a full-time mother, a role she treasured.
April lived with multiple sclerosis for the last 37 years of her life. Though confined to a wheelchair, she inspired everyone around her. Her positive attitude lifted others, and she focused not on what she had lost but on how she could continue to serve. She loved using her computer to send cheerful, encouraging messages to friends and family. Her health challenges deepened her compassion, and she often prompted her family to be her hands and feet, giving them countless opportunities to serve through her example.
For the last five years, April served as a senior service missionary in the Family History Department of the Church. She encouraged loved ones to join her in genealogical work and personally indexed hundreds of thousands of names. Her virtual service allowed her to bless people across generations.
Decades of physical challenges refined her faith in Jesus Christ. Her journey resembled that of the early Saints who pushed handcarts mile after mile, relying daily on the strength and guidance of the Spirit. April touched countless lives and helped many with their own "handcarts." Having reached the end of her trail, she now beholds the paradise of heaven and, with one final push, sends her handcart over the edge and soars into eternity-free and whole at last.
A beloved and elect daughter of our Heavenly Father, she exemplified the Savior's words: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:23)
April's memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 955 NW 173rd Avenue,
Beaverton, Oregon 97006.
