Ardith “Art” B. Gregory, 79, of Elkhart, passed away Monday June 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Art was born on August 11, 1945 in Gary, IN to Nathan C. and Jeannette M. Gregory. On April 20, 1968, in Mendon, he married Grace (Guthrie).
Art honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Trinity on Jackson since 1974. He worked as a security guard for Miles Labs/Bayer for 37 years in Elkhart. After retirement he worked at Harold Ziegler with his brother as a vehicle exchange driver. He enjoyed fishing and hiking various mountains in the U.S. He also enjoyed panning for gold, especially in Brown County. He liked watching tv and loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on camping and fishing adventures. He also enjoyed waterfalls and hot air balloons, specifically his 50th birthday ride.
Art is survived by his wife Grace of 57 years, children: Michael Gregory of Elkhart, IN, and Christine (Chris) Allen of Elkhart, IN, sister Patricia Gregory of Elkhart, IN, grandchildren: Kyle Slessman, Morgan Jacobs, Trevor Slessman, Reese Gregory (Neida Salas), Nicholas Gregory, step-grandchildren: Andrew (Carissa) Allen, Christopher Allen, Aereann Stacey, 7 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Jeannette Gregory, brother, Kenneth (Lori) Gregory, sisters Darlene Johnson and Devonna (Leland) Sanders and nephew Todd Hartman. Art will be dearly missed by all those that loved and knew him.
A visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral home 1531 Cobblestone Blvd, Elkhart, IN 46514. Visitation will be held at 10 am with funeral at 11 am on Friday, June 13, 2025 with Pastor Karen Koelsch officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart, IN.
