DYER CHAPEL - Arlena Joyce Sliger, a cherished resident of Baxter, Tennessee, and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 9, 1942, in Putnam County, Tennessee, Arlena dedicated her life to her family, community, and service to her church.
Throughout her working years, Arlena contributed her talents at such esteemed establishments as Mallory's, Tutco-Sparta, and C&M Clothing. Her commitment to her work was not merely a means to an end; it was a testament to her strong work ethic and her desire to support those she loved.
Arlena found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was known for her love of yard sales, where she would often find hidden treasures. Her passion for gardening and canning filled her home with warmth and delicious produce, which she generously shared with family and friends. These hobbies not only brought her happiness but also served as a way for her to connect with others in her community.
A member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Arlena was deeply committed to her faith and her church family, which provided her with strength and purpose throughout her life.
Arlena is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years (Married August 2, 1960), Robert Lynn Sliger, and her loving children: son Neal Sliger of Sparta, daughters Janet Jared of Sparta and Joyce Sliger of Baxter. She will be dearly missed by her siblings, brothers Jerry (Lisa)Massa of Baxter and O.V. Massa of Sparta, and sisters Eulene Elrod and Willene Lafever of Baxter. Arlena was a proud grandmother to Terry Lynn (Krissy) Delaney, Desiree (Brandon) Buckner, Jade Cobble and Deidra Lafever, and cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Terry Michael Delaney, Colton Lee Delaney, Callen Buckner and Javen Lafever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oakley Stanton and Jessie Mae "Mossie" Stoglin Massa, brother, Harold Massa, sisters-in-law Gladys Massa, Oneda Massa, brothers-in-law Robert Elrod and Gene Dale Lafever and a nephew Gary Allen Massa.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 20 at 2 PM at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home, 798 South Willow Avenue Cookeville, TN. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Bro. Jeff Randolph will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 11 AM until service time at 2 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Terry Lynn Delaney, Terry Michael Delaney, Colton Lee Delaney, Steven Lafever, Chad Lafever and Rodger Conradi.
Arlena Joyce Sliger's spirit will continue to warm the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy of love and kindness will undoubtedly resonate through the generations of her family and friends.
