Arlene G. Fussell, 81, of Winnsboro, Louisiana passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 14, 2023. She loved tending her flowers and found great joy in caring for those that couldn't take care of themselves. Her home was the place all the kids gathered. Even though she worked tirelessly to provide food and shelter for her family, it is rumored that you could eat the food she prepared off her clean floors. She drew her strength from her relationship with Jesus Christ. Always praying for those she loved. Acquaintances became friends and some as close as family. Whether it was having water fights with the grandbabies, taking them to the library or the dollar store, she was known as their hero. As the children grew into adulthood, they all knew that her home was their shelter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Marie Givens, sisters, Irene Miller and "Pete" Jordan, brother "Buck" Givens and grandson "Robby" Smith. She is survived by her children, Connie (Doug) Dernier, Ronnie (Jewell-Arender), Fussell, Edgar (Vickie) Fussell, Edna (Michael) Rockhold, Terry Fussell, grandchildren, Chris, Matthew and Lance Dernier, April L. Smith, Nathan and Aaron Powell, Rachel Mayo, Ashley Fussell, Rachal Lindgren, Jacob, and Leslie Rockhold, 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Fussell, Edgar Fussell, Terry Fussell, Ronald Hitt, Chris Dernier, Matthew Dernier, and Jacob Rockhold. The visitation will be on Friday, July 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Apostolic Tabernacle, 2629 Hwy 130, Winnsboro, LA 71295 with Bishop Michael R. Couch officiating.
Interment will follow at Chase Cemetery, Hwy 15, Chase, LA 71324, under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home.
