Arlene Gordon, affectionately known and called "Arlene" was the ninth of eleven children born to the late James and Rovena Levell on September 8, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey.
Arlene attended the public schools of Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from South Side High School. She loved people, fun, music and she loved to dance. She furthered her studies at Union County College where she received her Certification in Business Administration. Arlene did a special project for Mayor Gibson on his campaign trail of which he won first black Mayor of Newark, NJ.
Arlene was employed at Newark City Hall in the Water Department for 25 years. Later in life, to further and upgrade her living, she relocated her family to the suburbs of Plainfield, New Jersey. She worked at the Board of Education as an administrative assistant for many years. She went to work for the Plainfield Police Department (Traffic Unit) and from there she was transferred to Central Dispatch where she worked until retirement.
Arlene and Enoch Gordon, Sr., were united in marriage on April 7, 1962. From that union, two beautiful children were born, Lenore Gordon-Sutton and Enoch Gordon, Jr. Two grandsons were also born, Lamar Sutton and Jaheem Gordon.
Arlene has been an active member of Queen of Angels Church in Newark, NJ and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Plainfield, NJ.
Arlene leaves to mourn her death, her late husband Enoch T. Gordon, Sr., daughter Lenore Gordon-Sutton and son Enoch Gordon, Jr.; grand-children Lamar Sutton and Jaheem Gordon; and one sister Eleanor Lynor of Whitehall, PA.
Arlene is now gone to be with her parents James and Rovena Levell, sisters who preceded her in death, Mary Files, Susie Smith, Elaine Kennedy, Marie Williams, and Hilda Altruz; brothers James, Jr. Eugene, Dennis and Anthony Levell.
Arlene will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by her special friend of 50 years Patricia C. Williams, LaWanda Copeland who calls her Aunt Arlene and her other friends that loved her, Sheila, Sadie, Ella and Carolyn.
