Arline L. Magnuson, 94, of Springhill in Erie, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the evening of July 29, 2022. She was born on October 30, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island, to her late parents, E. Robert Johnson and Esther Johnson. She graduated from Hope High School in 1945 and thereafter from secretarial business school. She was an executive secretary in Providence until her marriage to her husband, Philip Magnuson, on November 5, 1949 and their move to Erie where Phil started his business career. Arline was a homemaker and mother to her two sons. She was actively involved at Calvary Evangelical Covenant Church and served as a pianist there and later in life was a member of First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. She had a great love for music and she and Phil would often perform duets with Phil accompanying her on his trumpet or in song. She loved her grandchildren and spoiled them when they came to stay with Phil and her. She would often say, "If things can't be different at Grandma and Grandpa's house, then why even come?"
Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Phil, in 2020 and her sister Dorothy in 2021. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Curtis of Pittsburgh, PA, Scott and Ann, of Murrysville, PA, her five grandchildren, Gabriel (Elizabeth) Magnuson, Rachel (Michael) Ebbert, Erin (Travis) Helbig, Michael Magnuson and Claire (John) Hopple as well as her four great grandchildren, Madison Helbig, Lucy Helbig, Winifred Ebbert and James Ebbert.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6th, at the Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge located at 3801 W. 26th Street in Millcreek. A memorial service will be held at Spring Hill Retirement Community in the future. A private burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Philip and Arline Magnuson Scholarship Fund at the Erie City Mission, P.O. Box 407, Erie, PA 16512.
