Armand W. Bastien, Sr., beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed from this life on July 15, 2025 at Methodist Hospital in Webster. Born in Galveston on February 11, 1946, the son of Armand Bavoux Bastien and Florine Gonzales Bastien, he was educated at Sacred Heart School and graduated from Kirwin High School with the class of 1964. He attended St. Thomas University and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Reunited with the love of his life when he returned home, he married Sandra Johnson on December 10, 1966 at St. Mary's Cathedral Church. Together they raised two children, Adrienne and Armand.
He spent some time in his early years in the carpentry shop of his grandfather William Bastien, who, among other jobs, restored pieces of antique wood furniture that included ornate work. In addition, his father was closely involved with supplying materials for the building and restoration business that was just beginning on the island. As a young adult, Armand joined his father in that business.
Together, Armand and Sandy opened their stained-glass shop on the Strand where they not only created new works of stained glass art but restored a number of pieces for historic homes under restoration. Armand expanded the supply business into construction and restoration.
Armand was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Bill Stevens. A lifelong Catholic, he leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 58 years, Sandy Bastien and siblings, brother Robert Bastien (Deborah) and Claudia Bastien Stevens and his children, Adrienne Caruso (Jared) and Armand Bastien.
He will be greatly and dearly missed by grandchildren Chase Micheletti, Chelsi Alba (Xavier), Samantha Boddie (Bryce), Aiden Caruso and his great-grandchildren Lana Alba, Rylie Alba, Olivia Alba and Cecelia Boddie.
The structures and restorations he built will stand as memorials to his creativity and skill.
A visitation for Armand will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 at 6pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517, Dickinson, TX 77539.
