Armand Messer, age 77, from Lynwood, California,passed away from Interstitial Lung Disease on July 4,2024, following a brief struggle. Armand was in the Army and spent 1967 and 1968 in Vietnam, where he was exposed to Agent Orange.In 1965, Armand graduated from Lynwood High School.Armand served his country and then completed his higher education, earning a bachelors degree in Industrial Arts from Cal State Long Beach in 1974. That same year,he was hired as an Industrial Arts teacher at Eisenhower High School in Rialto. Excelling as a standout classroom instructor, eight years later, he was promoted to assistant principal of Eisenhower High School. Armand also obtained his masters degree from Cal State University, San Bernardino.In 2002, he was promoted to Principal of Eisenhowerand that would be the position he would serve until his retirement in the summer of 2005. According to Nicholas Vallentine, a retired biology teacher from Kobb Middleand Eisenhower High School who was a colleague and friend of Armand for over 25 years, Mr. Vallentine stated,"People respected and liked him a lot. After he retired,he would come back to the campus to attend games and whether it was security, custodians, teachers, administrators,or former students, they would all run over to give him a warm hug and thats just the type of manhe was, a very humble and very caring person."Armand was always an active participant in his childrens lives. He was their Redlands AYSO soccer coach and Redlands Community Baseball coach every year. He was also involved in Y-Indian Guides.Armands legacy continues through his wife of 57 years,Paula, and two sons, Brett, who lives in Brea, and Brian,who lives in Indiana with his wife, Sarah. Armand had five grandchildren that he referred to as "his dividends of life". They are Jake, Alyssa, Evelynn, Everett, and Emerson.Retired in 2005, Armand continued his hobby of woodworking and attended Eisenhower sporting events until his passing.Every Friday during football season, he was somewhere in Southern California attending a high school football game.He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Darlene, and his son, Kevin. Armand will be missed terribly,he was an amazing husband, father, Papa, and friend.Services were held at Riverside National Cemetery.A service to celebrate the life of Armand will be held from noon until 4pm, on September 28th at his home in Yucaipa.
