Armando Mateus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Mar. 4, 2024.
Armando Mateus of Philadelphia passed away on March 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was 94. Armando was the beloved husband of Ilda who passed away in 2021. He was loving father of Noémia (Vitalino), Helena (Paul) and the late Odete (Fernando). Also surviving are his Grandchildren Nuno, Marisa, Patricia, Renato, Roger, Justin, and Jake and Great Grandchildren Margarida, António and Valerie.
Armando was born in 1929 in a small town in Portugal from a humble and impoverished family. From a very young age he traveled the countryside in search of work. His youth was filled with tales of hard times. He met the love of his life at a very young age and were married for sixty-seven years. He was lost and without direction after she passed away.
Driven by the ambition of providing his family with a better life, he embarked to France in 1965 by himself in hopes of having his family later join him. As this dream was not realized, he made another courageous leap in 1977, this time with wife and youngest daughter to the U.S. once again with the hope of a better life for his family. Although the family never lived together again in the same continent, he spent a lot of time with his family both in Portugal and in the U.S. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to share in Armando's Life Celebration Friday, March 8th starting 9:00 AM followed by his funeral mass 10:30 AM at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 2000 Shelmire Ave., Phila, PA 19152.
